That is unbelievable how good these two sticks are, it was once said by Sled that Mark Llewjeski could catch a legal musky while doing dishes, it pretty much sums it up that no matter which body of water they are on they catch fish!

Just curious about the press conference at The Musky Shop, is there going to be a news shoot or something? Big Congrats to both of them once again.

As I understand it there will be a film crew from Rhinelander TV and some local press (Lakeland Times no doubt) among others.

Congrats again you guys. Enough can't be said about all you guys accomplished. For anyone who doesn't own the Badfish videos, I would really reccomend getting yourself a copy of them. Very entertaining, but you can also take quite a bit from them as well.

Lot of hard work paid off for Mark and Clay this year, congrats.
Talked to Mark this morning, said he's been breaking ice/hiking for 3 miles in N.Vilas to get to his bow stand, and seeing some big bucks beginning to chase.
3 miles?
That's what it takes to kill a brute.

I see a pattern here...

Congrats to Mark & Clay,

Is the overall participation in the WMT that much greater than the PMTT?

My impression has been that the payouts for the PMTT are paltry when you examine all of the hoopla, hype, and buildup for PMTT events. It would appear that the monies brought in through entry fees and substantial sponsor fees are being siphoned off big-time, as the winners sure are not seeing anything like this ...

The payday that these guys experienced seems to be exponents more than PMTT payouts.

Great job guys!

*** The Badfish videos are great. I've got 'em all.

Actually, the overall participation on the WMT was way down this year and I am guessing way less then the PMTT. This is a great accomplishment and a huge payout, but does not have anything to do with the amount of participation or payouts at the regular season qualifiers. If you read the press release, they had to win several different things or catagories throughout the year and the championship, etc. This is an insurance plan type payout for them e.i; The kind like catch a world record and win a million dollars.

Payouts weren't good this year on the WMT as participation was way down. I am also wondering if the grand slam will even exist next year on the WMT, because what insurance company or sponsor would take on this program knowing that it can be done and that they might have to pay it out? Though an incredible feat and very hard to accomplish, it now has been proven it can be done and no insurance company ever wants to pay out for anything.

More Musky,

Very interesting the way it is structured. I've now read the release. What an amazing accomplishment.

I failed to recognize that this was one of those highly improbable ... but altogether possible, circumstances.

What a way to cap off a Musky season. Do you think these guys will be fired up come opening day next season???

Here's my report from the press conference today. First of all to answer a previous question Tom McInis stated that yes the possiblitity of someone winning a Grand Slam will be in place again for next year. The insurance companies who handle these type of things take in plenty of money in premiums from various contests that never get prizes collected.

Well, the guys arrived in plenty of time for the big event and accompanied by their significant others who were beaming with pride. Mark walked in the door with his now trademark can of Red Bull in hand. (like he needs it???). Tom was already there with the big check and the actual personal checks ready to go. Rhinelander TV reporter Janelle showed up to do the shoot and interview with the guys. It was done as a nice human interest/local boys do good kind of piece as the questions were pretty much softball type stuff. "How did you feel when you knew you won?" "What are you going to do with the money?" etc. Definitely no tough fishing questions but overall a nice exposure for the guys. They were later interviewed and photo op for the Lakeland Times which again was pretty standard questions. A number of folks hung out for a bit and offered congrats to the guys. I think they were happy to get this stuff over with and move on with life. Mark went out fishing this afternoon and not sure what Clay was up to but it's obvious the guys are going to keep on doing what they do.
I'm going to have them in for an interview on the "Regular Fishin' for Regular Guys" radio program in a couple weeks. We're working on coordinating everyone's schedule. When that's set I"ll let you know and you can call or e-mail in any questions you may have for the guys.

More Musky,

I don't know who you are or what person associated with the day-to-day business of the WMT that you spoke to, but you have got to get your facts straight and stop spewing info about the WMT that you have no knowledge of.

Facts are the WMT was down on average a little more then 6 entries per event, where the PMTT was down a little over 31 teams per event as per their web site's info. Facts are for the eight years of the WMT, we have paid-back over 90% of the entry fees for each season and over 130% if you include the prizes...and that doesn't include the cash and prizes that Mark Lijewski and Clay Schroeder won with winning the "MUSKIE GRAND SLAM"(TM) or the "MUSKIE TRIPLE CROWN"(TM). Facts are, the WMT had seven tournaments full, having gained in some tournaments, even with last year on others and down in participation with others. Facts are the WMT had over three times the amount of entries in 2008 than did the PMTT. The WMT did have a significant drop in our overall participation due to us dropping 3 tournaments in 2008 from the 2007 season. Listen, no matter what species of fishing tournaments in 2008, most events were down in numbers, no matter how popular they have been in the past or how long they have been running. Over $4.00 a gallon really impacted the fishing and tourism industry, along with job cuts and the overall poor economy in 2008. More than ever, we need our fellow muskie anglers to support as many muskie tournaments as they can in 2009, the PMTT, IMTT, MMTT, Spring Classic, Paul's Pro Am, Butternut Tourney, Phillips Charity Event, Hodag Musky Challenge, June Jam, National Championship, ect. and yes the WMT as well as others, or we could lose these great muskie events for ever and that would be a huge loss.

Also More Musky, it is abundantly clear that your knowledge of Promotional Companies that issue insurance policies is very limited! Promotional Companies pay out millions of dollars each year to indviduals who: catch a tagged fish, fifty inch muskie, or put a puck in the net, shoot a half court shot, hole-in-one, and so on, but they collect millions more in insurance fees. Paying-out money for the promotion companies is a part of "doing business". Actually, I don't know if I can get it done in time for the 2009 season, but look for the 2010 WMT season to have the "MUSKIE GRAND SLAM"(TM) and "MUSKIE TRIPLE CROWN"(TM) to be significantly bigger pay-out then it was this year.

More Musky, I don't know why you felt it necessary to try to put a negative spin on a great accomplishment that Mark and Clay had achieved on a tournament circuit that they enjoy competing in. Why couldn't you have just congratulated the two anglers for their hard work and skill?

Thanks,

Tom McInnis

As a first year participant I was pretty impressed with how the WMT was operated and organized. I can only assume the amount of work and structure it takes to put together a series like this.I will be back next year!
More Musky its not about the $$$$, or how big it is its. It's about the fishing and time spent on the water, once it is about $$$ hang up your rod and call it quits! Tom and Beth did a nice job working on the WMT this year I expect it to only improve and get better. So again congrats to Clay and Mark for a great accomplishemnt and i am sure will bring their "A" game again next year!
