Posts: 1459 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I'm running offshore boards and am having some probs with the boards popping off with standard front clips. I know the OR-18s are the way to go, but at $13 a pop, that's like 80 bucks just in clips for 6.... Has anyone found a way to make the standard clips work w/o popping off?

Posts: 794 Location: Delavan, WI | I took the standard clip drilled a hole thru it tapped the hole then took a machine screw cut it so it sticks thru a little bit and rounded the head so there's no sharp edges Im a mechanic and have a lot of tools so unless you have some knowledge of how to do the above mentioned I would not reccomend it overall it works pretty good, although you have to be careful - the rubber pads can come unglued and I also broke a clip after drilling it once otherwise it's a good money saving tip!

I've seen the 18's at Wal-Marts for about $10 for a set of 2.

Posts: 1270 | The other option is to get some OR16 snap weight releases. These have a little "pin" in the middle of them so that the line can't release and are the same size as the standard releases. I run the OR16's on the back of the board and the OR18's on the front, there is NO slipping period!

It's been awhile since I've been there, but they were at the Wal-Mart's in Green Bay. At both the West Mason and De Pere locations. A bonus about the De Pere location is that is next door to Sportsman's Warehouse. I wouldn't be surprised if a Wal-Mart in Oshkosh had them too. Fleet Farm might be an option too, but being late in the year their trolling gear is usually pretty bare. I know Gander Mountain has them, but they are probably over priced. Checking the Internet might not be a bad idea either. You never know where you might find them cheap. Side note on Gander, I was at the Green Bay location last week and they had some Humminbird locators in a bargain bin pretty cheap. A Matrix 67 with GPS was $300. Posts: 1459 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Anybody use these 40400s by church? They can be mounted on offshore boards and are 2 for 8.50. Reportedly work fine for SKIs. Attachments ---------------- ![]()
