Its the vibrations of the blades more than the chicken feather or the tree decorations. Take your pick.

True flashabou(not tinsel) is the most durable material out there. Holds it's color and doesn't deteriorate like natural material, especially marabou. Fish after fish after.........Shumway giant flashers are tied much fuller(with marabou) and hold up fairly well though.

i don't think the materials matter, i really like marabou myself for the way it moves, but really, it doesn't matter.

Sure it matters. It matters if you PAY for a product, fish more than a few days here and there and the product deteriorates. There is something to be said for durability.Marabou moves nice in the water but the elements(sun, wind, etc.) tear it up.

But will it still catch fish???? H3ll yes! Even without any dressing it will still catch fish. Like I said its the blades not the dressing.

JMO and I do like the hair and marabou but the bad thing is that they hold water against the hooks for a long time and will rust even the best of hooks. Most of my Marabou skirt bucktails are on their 2nd or 3rd set of hooks now. Nice thing is, I don't have to sharpen hooks each spring! Even my nice Mustads rust on these bucktails. At the end of the day though I think 90% of the "catching" power of a double #10 or #13 is teh vibration of the blades and very little has to do with blade color or skirt color or material. We are fishing for lateral line feeders. A little flash is good to catch their eye but I imagine they feel something coming long before they see it.
JMO,
James

The blades may draw the fishin in, but the dressing definitely adds to the triggering ability of the bait.

For the same reason folks buy bait with fancy paint jobs on them. Some of my best baits have all the paint knocked off them. You think that color matters??? I would says action and vibration are the main reason. In most cases, but not all.

ok then ship me all your maraboo,i will give you nudes blades for each of them:)
btw i dont and will never use fancy painted cranks.action yes i agree, thats why i dont like silicon, and rubber tails, and yes colors matters, can you tell me a better color than black boo or black bucktails?thats a strange thing because i can give you a lots of better colors for cranks but black is hard to beat for bucktails.i tend to use black cranks under black sky,but black bucks are always good
