| I think I might have posted my inquiry in the wrong forum earlier. After having some extra time to surf around I think it may be better suited here. But I could be wrong.
Anyway:
Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and brand new to concept of muskie fishing. I'm going to attempt to attach some pictures I need help on. I make custom lures to fish the delaware river between Trenton and Lamberville for Stripers and sometimes the surf in NJ(hopefully I didn't just curse in this forum). It has been suggested to me that my lures seem more geared towards Muskie fishing than bass. Just wondering from those who know the beast agree with the suggestion. If so, I know of a lake close by known to hold decent size muskie I wouldn't mind trying for. Also I don't know if the colors suit the style or not. Any help would be appreciated.....thanks for reading.....
Also, are muskie strong fighters??

| yes, muskie are strong fighters, wire or heavy flourocarbon leaders would be wise or you will be making alot more lures. Try casting flats and trolling is also very effective, any depth as they typically roam open water in search of prey. Colors vary, as does depth. You need to know the forage, perch, shad, walleye, etc. I have my best luck on perch and firetiger colors. I posted a question about making lures, it is titled help get goin. Maybe you have some starter suggestions? Good luck, and when you get that first big one, you will be hooked forever. By the way, when you troll, run from 1.5 to 7 mph, they like it fast, especially when the water is below 52 degrees. Vary your speed and pay attention when you get that first strike. send me pics of your baits if you want, I would like to see them. thanks,

| Colors are very nice. You might want to add a third hook to the shaft behind the buzz blade, maybe even a single Siwash hook with a big grub on it. If they are there, they will eat those lures. Very nice work.

| Not sure if you painted those hooks or are they some kind of salt water thing? They look like somthing that comes on the bigger Raps. But with the fish you have out there you might, might want to beef up the hooks if It does't affect your action. Looks like they could be the next NEW big thing if they reach the hands of some of the gools hear in Wisc. Minn. area. Good job. |

Wanna, the hooks are 4x 9626 vmc's. the specs on my lures are: the smaller one is 7 3/4" long and 1 3/4 oz. with 2/0 hook size. the larger one in 8 1/2" long and 3 1/4 oz with 3/0 hook size. both are wired through with stainless steel wire. my own custom hook hangers. they are epoxy filled, sealed, primed, painted and have two coats of top coat. I built these to catch striped bass from the river and surf up to 40,50lbs. But since it was suggested to me that my lures looked more geared towards muskies I can't wait to catch one after recently reading some articles and this website. Thanx for kind words. |
