If I change my name to Musky, I would have gotten a 6'3" today...

Got out on Monona with Waldo on Friday evening. He picked up the first Leech Lake strain fish in my boat - a 32" fish that was much skinnier than any 32" fish I have seen in Madison before. Curious if it was just this fish or if the LL strain put weight on differently. Only time and more fish in the boat will tell. Also lost a fish at the side of the boat that hit a DCG so light that I called it as a bass. By the time it started thrashing at boat side there's nothing I could do with it. Lesson learned - set the hooks on all bass.

Saturday Sled and I woke up at the crack of 8:00 a.m. and headed out to the lake and by 11:00 we had action from a few fish that were found on the outside weed-line - open water transition area. Water temps were 64 with high visibility. Lures used: DDD, DepthRaider, 11" Curly Sue and Pounder.
Sunday we faired a little better and was on the water thirty minutes before sunrise. However, with the cooler winds we were not finding many fish in deep water. We moved up shallower and we lost one and we saw one swimming around with it's head out of the water...silly fish almost then hit a Suick dead sticked' in the water by the side of the boat. We continued to search around and by noon the air was warmer and a ton of baitfish could be found shallow. We caught/moved fish on either a Weagle, Long Tail Spinners and/or twitch baits.

wish you would have lost the picture of that second one ... lol. scrawney fish looking almost sickly especially for that water ... but a scrapper. really disappointed we couldn't score the 3 others we should have caught!

great time on the water this weekend working two very different patterns from one day to the next so an enjoyable thinking game too.

We put 3 in the boat on Saturday with chances at 8-10 more. Got my PB too, 48 incher! Sunday we had 5 fish in the net between 4 of us, chances at a bunch more again. I saw more fish take a swing at a bait and miss it this weekend than I ever could have imagined. How do they get so big with that terrible of accuracy? Twice the fish followed in, opened mouth, charged bait, missed, clamped mouth shut and did a couple head shakes then took off, not ever having gotten within 6 inches of the lure!!!!!

Certainly didn't have a weekend like Sled and Agrimm had. I'd like to fish wherever you are Agrimm, you catch a lot of pretty looking fish. Anyway, I only got to get out Saturday morning from about 8:00-2:00 PM. Only had one little northern on - couldn't even keep that hooked! Fished rocks, cribs, and weeds, from shallow to deep. Soft plastics, jerkbaits, blades, and cranks. Nothing going on where I was, doing what I was doing. My slower periods of the season this year have been when the fishing should be good - weird.

Saturday I fished from 7 to 2 and managed to catch a 32 incher and lost a high thirty inch pike on a sucker. Sunday I fished for a few hours and never saw a thing.

My buddy and I worked Manitowish on Thursday afternoon with one strike and three follows. One of the follows was a dandy mid-40's that flashed four times during a minute and a half long figure-8. Swiped at my orange-bladed black bucktail on a couple occasions, just never hooked up.

Friday morning we boated a couple snake northern, one small ski and had a several more follows on Manitowish and Wild Rice. Gold blades seemed to be what the fish were looking for.

Had a couple more follows Friday afternoon and my buddy put a 32incher in the boat around 5:30 on a natural colored bucktail with double gold blades. I had another mid-30's swipe at the boat on double orange blade during a figure-8 about 6pm. I felt the tug on his second swipe but the hooks never set. At dusk, a monster walked behind my orange and yellow Doc for nearly 50 feet over a mid-lake weedbed. It looked like a submarine plowing water, but I couldn't coax the old girl to eat. Had to be mid 40's or better, she was making a wake and boiling the water..... My knees were shaking!

The front moved in Friday night and the rain seemed to put a damper on Saturday. We boated three northern, two on a sucker colored Bobbie Bait in the morning. In the afternoon we had a mid 30's take a swipe at a Crane in shallow water, but again no hook-up. Action was noticeably slower with the barometer rising and the cooler temps.

A couple small ski's is not much slime to brag about, but decent action for a couple of weekend warriors. We had action on a variety of cranks, jerks, topwater and bucktails with both orange and gold blades, I did throw soft-plastics each day mostly off the deep side of weed edges but they drew no interest.

Maybe next trip we'll get some of those big girls to eat it like Andy and Sled. Great day guys!! I wish I could have fished on Sunday!

I got sunburned for 3 hours on friday, and fished for 2 hours on sunday until the wind picked up. Might have had one strike sunday trolling a dlb 10. This year has been SLOW for me. Did bag a grouse on saturday though.
