Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Day 1 of the Rhinelander Toyota Hodag Muskie Challenge is looking pretty good. As of noon today, 18 fish have been registered. The team of Todd Forcier and Dan Meyer are the only ones that have doubled so far being a 44 1/2 and a 35 1/2. Both fish were caught before 9:30 this morning. Todd and Dan held big fish for the tournament until about noon with locals Jeff Piazza and Bill Donner just edging them out with a 44 3/4 inch fish. Stay tuned for a full report this evening from tournament headquarters and what looks to be a ton of fish pictures. Edited by Merckid 9/20/2008 8:57 PM

HI all, I got home quicker than TJ did! He did an AWESOME job of covering the event so far. We spent most of the day together. That boat he has is pretty nice! Lots of fish caught. 6 teams doubled, 38 fish caught total. I think it was 16 over 40 with the biggest being a 45.5. Mike Marquardt and Shane Spencer are in the lead. Tomorrow will decide who walks away with $20,000! It's going to take at least 3 fish to win it, maybe 4! It has been a great event so far and hats off to M1st for the job that they have done so far! Thank you on behalf of the the Rhinelander Toyota Hodag Muskie Challenge! John Stellflue

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Day One was a record day for the 2008 Rhinelander Toyota Hodag Muskie Challenge. 38 fish were registered, and six teams doubled! Leaders Shane Spencer and Mike Marquardt were done by 1pm with two fish measuring 42.25 and 41.50 coming off Boom Lake. Sitting in very close second with two fish are Josh Wood and Jason Baars with 119 points that included day 1 big fish 45.50 and a 37.25 that came from Crescent Lake. Locals Jeff Piazza and Bill Donner are holding down third place with two fish that measured 44.75 and 36.00. Dan Meyer and Todd Forcier are in fourth and were the first team to double and be done by 9:30am with a 44.50 and a 35.50. Fifth is being held by Nathan Bell and Brett Chariton with a 43.50 and a 35.75 from fourth lake of the Moen Chain. Anglers interviewed by MuskieFIRST all had some kind of action whether it be a missed fish or follows, the bite seemed to be strong throughout the day but the moon set at 1:30 seemed to be a key bite for the Field. A record day for overall total of fish with 16 of 38 fish over 40 inches. Stay tuned for final day morning interviews, images and a final day wrap up.
