If you have a beach below your house with milfoil in it, are you allowed to dredge the lake bottom? I think this requires a permit of somesort. Thanks

Posts: 8774 | Dredging? Better look into getting a permit. And prepare for thefact that the DNR is likely to say "no way" when you try.

"allowed"? "permit"? lol... i assume what you mean by dredging is raking it clean of all the weeds. people do this all the time in front of their property. it's probably not legal in most areas, but that doesn't mean the lakefront home owners don't do it.

throw some casts off your dock to the inside edge

Phragmites [PDF, 66Kb], 2. eurasian water milfoil, 3. curly leaf pondweed, and 4. purple loosestrife" Source-> http://dnr.wi.gov/org/water/fhp/waterway/dredging.html Have fun! Al

Thanks for the responses. I meant actual mechanical dredging using a pump. If there is a lot of silt and milfoil present is a vaccum suction pump allowed? It would not spread the milfoil cause the whole plant would be removed from the lake. Thanks

Posts: 2752 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Go to the link I posted above & read it! You will most likely have to get a permit. Good luck. Al

Any portion broken off could possibly spread the plant to other areas of the lake. Perhaps you should look into talking to the DNR about putting some of the milfoil removing beetles in your area.
