| I am starting to make some of my own lures. I want to use inexpensive material to start until I get better and go through my trial and errors. I am planning on using aluminum for my lips. I was wondering what gauge everyone uses and if there is any thing else I should be aware of when using aluminum. Thanks for any info you can give me. |

Location: Hugo, MN | Aluminum is actually more expensive than Lexan, and you will find that aluminum is not very durable when banged off rocks. Also it flexes quite a bit. I bought a 12" by 12" sheet of .22" Lexan for around 7 bucks, and it will make about 15 baits. I think it's easier to work with too. |

Location: Land of the Musky | If you want really tough you can get the SS lips just like the old Cisco Kids. I only have the really big ones but I think Moores Lures may have a few sizes. You will break your lure long before you do any damage to these lips.

| I use .187 thick aluminum.for my lures. It helps get them down and has pretty good action. You can use any woodworking tool on aluminum too. |
