Location: Bloomington, IL | So Sunday night I was bored with bass fishing (too warm for musky here), and got out my musky lures just goofing off (don't worry, no musky in this lake). When I got to messing with the Top Raider, and noticed that the front part of the body was slowly rolling over while it was being retrieved. I hadn't used one before that night, so I'm not really sure....but.....is that normal??? Or is it supposed to be stationary like my Stomper?

| I use a topraider and if you reel it slowly it wont rotate but if you reel at a good clip it will start to rotate on you. |

| The weight could also be dislodged causing it to roll.

Location: north west wisconsin | yep its prolly the weight grab it with the hooks pushed up against the body so they can't make any noise and shake it if you here a rattle the weight is loose i don't think I have a raider where the weight hasn't come loose |

Location: Madison, WI | Maybe try a bigger hook or placing a small bell sinker on the front hook? Not sure it it will make it go subsurface, worth a try.

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Is there water in the body of it? I've got one with so many holes in it that water was getting in and that added weight also. But I agree, these baits aren't made to burn, mine too will turn when reeling too fast. |

| Are you good with tools? If so, search the archives here. Try typing in "repair Top Raider" and search all posts. I had the same problem on several a few years ago and was given some advice by Jason Schillinger on how to fix the TRs with this problem. As for water, no, it doesn't have any in it...and it was rolling even though i was going very slow...so like these guys say, its probably the weight. I hope.  |

| That fix will allow it sit a little lower in the water. I like the sound when it sits a tad lower, catches more water and creates more thump. |

Location: Grand Rapids MN | My TR came out of the package rattling and it has always rolled over. I was told about the weight issue long ago but I haven't done anything as of yet. I just reel it very slowly but the problem is once you get a little chop it will want to roll over when climbing up the waves. Like the sound but ya it sucks when it rolls so easily. |

Location: Bloomington, IL | Well, I just listened to it again, and the rattle actually sounds like its coming from the tail. Is there a ball in there??? when i spin the tail, i hear a rattle, but when i hold the tail stationary and rotate just the body, i don't hear anything....so it seem to me that the weight wouldn't be loose......rats-o
is there a marine friendly lube that i can put on the tail shaft? I'm thinking something like 3-in-1 but something that's not toxic. This way I can eliminate drag from the prop twisting whole lure...

| The other thing you might try is hanging a small bell sinker on the front hook hanger. I've had mixed results with this. May just help it spin LESS, and not actually solve the problem. Doesn't sound like it's the internal weight from what you're describing. |

| Instead of using a milk jug piece of plastic once you've glued the weight in place, try filling the bait with Great Stuff foam (or something similar), cutting off the excess once it cures, then epoxying with waterproof 2-part epoxy. The bait will run lower in the water which to me, is a good thing. |

| Wouldn't the foam give it more positive bouyancy? Regardless, I agree that having it run a little lower in the water is a benefit. I put so much epoxy inside that it then sits MUCH lower in the water than when just out of the package. |

I don't think so. Even though the foam has a lot of air space, there is still the weight of foam in it. Unless you are using helium, air will still make a lure more bouyant than anything. I would guess that the foam would still make it sit a little lower.
Maybe I'll have to try this trick. But first I would have to buy a Topraider, then the weight would have to break loose... Still can't believe I don't have a Topraider in my box.
