| I am heading to Lake Vermillion for a week Aug 16th - 23rd. It will be my first time fishing Vermillion and I have heard that the lake is awesome. I will be fishing in the Head of the Lakes Bay area. I have heard mixed reports on the muskie fishing this year and I have also heard that this lake is incredibly crowded. Some have said it is like Lake Minnetonka but in Tower, MN. Anyone care to share their insights on the fishing or the crowding? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Location: Otsego, MN | It really is not that crowded. You will be just fine during the middle of the week, there are plenty of spots with fish on them. For starters just start fishing island points and all the jugs just like everyone else, but during the week you will have first crack at them. I fish tonka a lot and nothing compares to that lake with the combination of fisherman and pleasure boaters. |

Location: Ogden, Ut | There's more good spots than anglers to fish them. lambeau and I laughed about the 'pressure' all week at the outing. We spent our time in the west and central parts of the lake.

Location: oswego, il | I will be up there that week too. Sometimes the spots I fish are being fished, other times I go up and they are not. I don't have a big boat so when the wind is up, the areas I fish see more pressure. There are plenty of spots and plenty of spots not marked on the map. |

| Just dont go too late in sept or early in Oct so you bump into turnover it gets ugly
"personel opinion" vermilion is too crowded for me during summer , I also dont like the idea of having to Night fish to deal with spooky fish just so I can have a picture ,,Ive fished the lake since 1974 for other species,,, on the flip Leech is less crowded then it was in 74,,Hartmans metro tourney has been won twice with 50' plus fish from lake smaller then 300 acres and the state tiger record is from a lake thats less then 200 acres,,still plenty of lakes here where you can have solitude AND a shot at a trophy

Head of the Lakes Bay is on the Cook (West) end of the lake, not the Tower (East) end. last week's outing was headquartered right in that area, and even with the additional boats from our outing it was easy to be the only boat fishing even on the community spots. there were many times when we'd be fishing without a single other boat in sight, let alone another muskie fisherman. explore a bit and it's very easy to find both good fishing and solitude in that part of the lake. you'll be just fine.
when we got up there the fish were transitioning from weeds to rocks, with fish available in both places. by next week i'd start by checking shallow rocks near/in deep water and if they aren't there look for weed/rock areas with current.

There are 40,000 acers of great water to fish. Saturday is the only time it can be crowded, and even then it's just the easy spots that get the traffic.
I just got off the water an hour ago and I bet we didn't see 10 boats that were muskie fishing out in Big bay.
I fished the west end with the guys from the outting last week and we had every spot to ourselves all day.
Except for the time jonesie cut me off.

| I just came in from Big Bay too around 7 PM. Almost every community spot had someone on it. Boats must have all come out for the evening / night. There were still plenty of non community spots open but you just had to look around for them. I was only cut off once today so not too bad. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | In my opinion, the pressure on BigV is enough to impact someone's results or enjoyment factor.
Now, that is all relative. My expectations are higher when I travel 8+ hours to a 40,000+ acre lake too.
During the day, it is FAR easier to avoid fishing pressure. You can see from a greater distance that your next spot on your milk run is already taken... and adjust your course accordingly. At night, however, its a different story.... and the size of the lake can actually contribute to the problem (good spots can be further apart).
It frustrates me when I drive 1 mile to reach a destination.... only to have a boat flip its lights on as you come off plane to set up a drift. Sure, I can go find another spot... but when it happens 2 or 3 or 4 times in a row... it gets very frustrating. You can burn an hour at midnight in the summer just driving around looking for an open spot. With the same pressure during the day, you might only waste 15 minutes since you can make adjustments to your milk run much more efficiently (see that spots are taken before you get there).
I suppose I could SHARE a spot with someone... but it is a personal preference of mine to avoid the crowds.... so I move on.

LOL!
Scary to think how busy the lake will be ten years from now.
The last 10 years, EXPONENTIAL INCREASE IN PRESSURE.
No other way around it.
PS I heard a 59, 55, 49, and 47 was caught on island lake the other day.
