I have seen this stuff advertised in several fishing mags. Has anyone used it? I normally try to run ethanol free but having a hard time always finding it.

I've got a 50hp Merc 2 smoke and I tried the Sta-Bil Ethanol a couple of weeks ago. My motor idles rough with the EtOH blended gas and the Sta-Bil didn't help at all, still sputters and occasionally dies when trolling. It could be the plugs but more likely the gas. When I could find straght unleaded easier last year, the motor ran much better, so it looks like I'm searching for a new gas station.

I wish I knew....you may want to see what others say...

Is an additive available that can prevent phase separation?
There is no practical additive that can prevent phase separation from occurring. The only practical solution is to keep water from accumulating in the tank in the first place.

Of course, there are others advertising....

I have no idea if this product works, but it's the only one I have found to say it works to help against ethanol.

Don't get me started on ethanol.............corn......

I add Sta-bil with every fillup in my boat. Although it won't stop phase seperation, it will help keep your seals and other engine parts in shape.

As far as I know, the way around the ethanol issue is to use premium gas. I know where I fill up 92 octane has no ethanol in it. I also use an additional external filter separate from what is in the engine.

I work in a oil refinery, and if you buy fuel west of about New York state (Appalalachia Mountains), you ARE getting 10 % ethanol. Try Sea Foam for both cleaning system and to stabilize fuel. You can get it at Autozone, I run it in my 90 hp Yamaha all year around.

hambone, are you saying that all gas west of NY has ethonal in it regardless of what it says on the pumps? I know here in Wisconsin they need to state if the gas has ethonal in it by law. If they have ethonal in it and they are not saying so the station would be opening themselves up to a HUGE lawsuit.
