| Hello,
I'm looking to get a new reel for fishing Double Cowgirls and other assorted bucktails. I'm going to put it on my St. Croix MH Premier. I was looking at the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C3 7000. Is this a good reel for this choice? I'm on a budget so around $120 would be my limit. I only fish Musky around 5 times a year and i take very good care of my equipment. Will this reel hold up to fishing double cowgirls? thanks

| It looks like I will be sending mine in under warranty very soon. It's making a terrible screaming sound when I cast. It has maybe 35 hours of use on it only, go figure. |

I'm not trying to sound like captain obvious, but did you put a drop of oil on each end of the shaft? That's the sound you get when it needs oil. Just a suggestion. |

Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | for the budget your working with, I'd WITHOUT A DOUBT spend an extra $50 and get the new daiwa saltist with levelwind for pulling in the dbl 10's and even smaller bucktails. There is currently a thread about it on this very section. IMO, there is no reel on the market for less than $250 that can come close to the quality and strength of this reel. they will pull #10's like it's a mepps!!!
I wouldn't walk, I'd run before either they are sold out everywhere or daiwa realizes it should be $269, not $169.

| Thanks alot. I was deeply considering the new Diawa Saltist but it would be a few months until I could get the money. I'm only 15 and get allowance once a month.

| I have lots of 7000's, including the c3. It's a really good reel, good mix of speed and power, and durable. There are other 7000's w/ 5.3 gears, like the big game model, and those have been great, too. |

| Get a used 7000 on ebay. Make sure it says "MADE IN SWEDEN" on the side, and is in good shape. Clean and oil it when you get the reel and you'll be in great shape for many years with regular maintenance. |

| Had one last year that didn't see too many hours till this year....
Now I've returned 3 of them and am currently on my 4th which is now going back. Abu says they're great for DC's so I blew through the whole stores supply to show them they aren't. (on the water 14h/3-4 days per week) Whether it be the worm gear being completely chewed up, the lever not engaging sometimes (pressure or not), or engaging midcast (handle down) they were all nothing but problems.
The 6500's I'm working with seem to be holding up better.
I'll be checking out the Saltist next.

Ps- For the guy who's is screaming while casting...try adjusting the secondary drag to a differnent position then adjust the main drag from there. Your spool may be too far off center so this may help.

| Darcy, Did you have the silver 7000C3I ? I heard others having problems with that model as well. I just picked up a Pro Rocket. Has anybody had issues with the Pro Rocket or the Red 7000I ?

Location: Iowa | I just got the Rollie and Helen's Custom 7000iHSN with the 4.1:1 gear ratio in it because I blew up an older 7000 C3 on Vermillion about two weeks ago. It was too old to send in under warranty so I just got the new one...we'll see how it works...

Grinch- Thanks for the tip. I messed around with it like you said and there is no more screaming any more. I also put a small amount of oil and grease in it any way, but the screaming didn't go away until I messed around with both of the drags. |

Location: North St. Paul, MN | I have a 7001i 4.1:1 (lefty) and absolutely love it. For 100.00 bucks I can't complain. It's smooth, sounds great, and handles the twin 10s with ease. So, my vote is for 7000i series. I must say that I'm not fishing 3-4 times a week either, so that may have something to do with it.
