Who really cares what strain it is? And why does it even matter? So some guy from some state can say , "see our fish grow bigger than yours".....get over it. Beautiful fish, that obviously earned through alot of knowledge and hardwork.
I wonder how Wisco or MN guys wouldn't want to catch it because it doesn't have the right bloodlines?? I can see it now, "holy #$%sniiiikeees Billy look at that 55 following my DCG, ..........boat partner, "figure eight, figure eight!!!! Nah, I don't want it, it isn't a LL strain.........."

The fact that there are two "different strains" of fish in Mille Lacs is interesting on many levels.

It has nothing to do with bragging rights about which state grows bigger fish.

It has more to do with growing trophy fish, and the best way/plan to do that.

When people say it's one or the other, it begs the question why that conclusion was made.

There is a lot to be learned out of what is happening in Mille Lacs. Is what we are seeing genetics or environment? Is one strain really getting bigger than the other, or is it going both ways?

If you're into muskies, than why wouldn't you be interested in these things?

john is right. there has been so much conjecture about the subject to the point of criminalizing people and organizations. it's something worth knowing and will hopefully bring more people together in developing fisheries for the future. a lot of people will speak for you if you let them which is precisely what's gone on in the argument of the past few years. fact in nature is a whole lot more convincing than the witch hunting that's been going on in this debate ... and both sides of the arguments would benefit if they could come off of the absolutes they've both put out there without substantive knowledge which this could bring to light.

What most people don't know is that our chapter supposedly had the stocking truck "accidentally" tip-over" from time-to-time while driving by Mille Lac from our rearing pond around 30+ years ago. There were also fish in there before then too. There's been fish in that lake for a while and they've been getting it on successfully too.

Sled,
My 'side' of the argument has been that there ARE no 'absolutes', that real scientific study is underway, and that the 'reality' that's right there in front of all of us in Mille Lacs tracking both strains bears that out. Hardly a 'witch hunt' position, IMHO.

I think you should be tipping that truck over more often just head north and drive that truck right into Gull Lake!
