Hey guys has anyone tried out the abu garcia big game series i just got a 9000i and I am liking it so far but im wondering if the the lever to engage the spool works or not when i reel it doesent engage it I have to do it manually just wondering. I threw it today a few times off a dock just to check it out put on 80lbs ultracast. Loved how it pulled cows and I am really excited to use the Cochran bou bling i just got it comes throufgh the water awesome.

I played with one for a little bit and IMHO it's just plain to big but then again I would not want to throw a Trinidad either. I learned how to flip the lever real quick and don't think that it's really a problem. It did pull a DC10 real nice though.

btw, the trinidad 14tn is the size of the calcutta 400. The trinidad 12n is even smaller...... The abu 9000, or even the 7000, are both much bigger and heavier than the trinidad.

Does the trinidad have a levelwind or angage the spool automatically? I have a 7000 with 4 to 1 gears and was looking for something a little more. One thing it has to have is an uatomatically engaging spool. If you cast over weeds, you want to engage as fast as possible.

LOL, I was referring to the Calcutta 400TE which is 12.8 oz and VERY similar in profile to the trinidad. 2 1/2 oz difference is quite SMALL IMO, compared to the needlesly oversized 9000i which tips the scales at a grotesque weight of 25ozs. You'd figure with all that extra weight they'd squeeze in some quality, but for $100 or so, you get what you pay for. The shimano products are the much better products IMO.

And no, the trinidad doesnt have the levelwind and the lever must be switched to engage the reel. When fishing shallow, over weeds, I thumb the spool at the end of the cast before the lure hits the water and engage the reel so I can start the retrieve as soon as the lure hits the water. This can be mastered in 15 minutes if your not the scarecrow from OZ.

If its a levelwind your after, with saltwater strength and durability, daiwa just came out with the saltist level wind model.
