I'll bet you may have some water in the units or your connections are bad. The best thing to do is keep trying to call and get a hold of them. Otherwise, I included links to F&Q's and Tips and Tutorials. Try these links.

The problem is that you updated the software. Get the downgrade from Lowrance and you won't have that problem anymore. Lowrance is having that same issue with a lot of their units once the person upgrades the unit the sonar locks up whenever you are under 15ft and its weedy or just shallow water. Downdgrade the unit back and wait to hear how any new software upgrades work out before you do it.

esoxriebe,

I, and many others have been having the same porblem with many different Lowrance units. I've been trying to get through to their customer support for over three weeks, via email and telephone, and can't get an answer either way. Please post if you are able to get through to them. I'm not bashing Lowrance; I'm just frustrated beyond belief.

There just was an article in Bass Walleye boat about this upgrade. I think there is a freshwater mode, or a way to turn off or adjust this depth tracking feature. I will grab the article tonight and check, but you might want to look in the sonar features section in the menu and see if this mode exist.

I sent this thread to a tech support guy I have worked with in the past at Lowrance. Though he prefers that I do not share his contact information with the public, he did authorize me to post the below response to the problems you are all having with this particular problem. I hope this helps:

The problem here, seems to be a bit of misinformation. While we cannot rectify the problems with people being able to get through since we are in our busy season, I can understand the frustration.

However, when looking at the thread, one statement puts all claims listed here to rest:

my lcx 20 of the front does the same thing when I hook it up in the back.

This alone rules out software, since the LCX-20 utilizes a different version of software, yet does not have the issue until mounting it on the back position connectors. This tells us there is something going on in those connections; in my experience, I have seen this stem from having an older paddle wheel or temp sensor, which utilizes the MY adapter cable. This cable has three ends; 1 that is the actual sensor, one that has a blue connection that plugs into the back of the unit, and a grey one that plugs into the transducer (these are all interchangeable between the LCX25 and the LCX20).

I have recently rectified this situation with a consumer who had installed the LMS 520 on his old blue connectors, which was using a sonar port connected paddle wheel/temp sensor. This “M-Y” cable had went bad, creating a distorted sonar screen that looked identical to what they have listed in this forum. My first question to this gentleman would be “Are you using a speed and temp sensor that is plugged into your Sonar port?” and if so, recommend he replace this outright. I have started to see this screen issue arise in users who do not want to take the time or effort to replace old items when upgrading to newer items. In this case, he is using a standard 25c or 20c, but gets the same thing going on when comparing either unit in the back position, so we need to look at what’s going on there.

esoxriebe, I had the same exact issue last season when I hooked my newly updated lcx 111 to the transducer that I was using for my lcx 25 on my old boat. When I put my lcx 25 back on it didn't work either. I tried connections, etc. etc. but the unit seemed to work just fine in my other boat. I finally laid the $$ down for a new trandsducer after reading similar reports on other sites and going through the steps Lowrance prescribed. It has worked ok since. Glad it wasn't the unit, and was a quick fix. Ohh... I also backdated the lcx 111 and cured the other issues with the unit as well. I recently checked Frank Walsh's board, and he said he's seen an innordinate number of Lowrance transducers failing on newer units this year at his camp. He's a good source. You might try to do the warranty thing(I didn't have time), or at least try another skimmer transducer on another rig or in a store to see if it works there so you know what the problem is.

I think reef has hit it on the head. Ive been having the same problems and
recently bought another unit for the bow. the bow unit worked flawlessly with the
transducer in the trolling motor, so i moved my rear unit and plugged it into the
frnt and it also started to read in shallow weeds. just got back from gander with
a new skimmer to put on the rear tonight. maybe get it out and will post on the
results.

Yup it was the transducer! prob bad right out of the box. Now the unit works
better than it ever has, also when the trolling motor was out of the water and
the frnt unit still on, The screen looked just like yours did. hope this helps.
