Posts: 358 Location: London, England | What's the verdict on these nets? I can see they'd be really useful in a smaller boat, but the shape of the bag is putting me off buying. I like the beckman finsaver bag with it's straight sides and flat bottom for keeping fish calm over the side of the boat, the finsaver bag looks like it wouldn't hang nearly as well in the water, and might net even be deep enough to do the job properly. What's the verdict from people who use these nets and have also used Beckman and Frabil nets?

| I have a Stowmaster, and love it. It's easy to use and takes up almost no room folded and on its side clipped to my boat tank. The bag is no problem, plenty deep enough. The mesh is fine enough so it doesn't hurt the fish, too. Look into the new model, I'll try to get a picture of mine and post it. I know one guy who had a 50" in one of these last fall, plenty of room to work on the fish. I've had fish to 47", no problem. | |||

Posts: 7 | I have one and I think it's great. It handles big fish just fine. The only problem is a function of the small mesh size: It is hard to move the net fast in the water (it takes a good grip and stance).

Are you using the larger muskie model net? The netting is no different than a Frabills net. I've used one of these quite a bit now and put quite a few fish in one last fall and I really like them. The shape of the bag is nothing I'd worry about. Get one of the musky size nets and you won't have an issue. I'd highly recommend them. Here is the clip of the guy I had out with me last fall who put the 50 inch fish in my boat. This fish was in the smaller of the two musky nets Stowmaster makes. I'd say there is plenty of room for that fish. *Note the net is sitting tight against the boat so it looks smaller than it is. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=38...
