Posts: 7037 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | For some the season just started (Canada), for others it's almost summer hiatus time (Indiana, KY, Ohio) and the rest have some time no the water, but the big time still lies ahead What have you learned, noticed that you might not have in the past, or seen that's a surprise....based on the time YOU'VE been on the water so far this year? Sort of a Q1 report card deal...

Posts: 897 | Everywhere I've been in Minnesota is way behind in both weed growth and fish activity. Starting to see more big fish, stuck a 44 and 51 so far this year and a bunch of dinks. Lots of followers and nippers. Lots of confidence in gliders after this spring... Oh, and on Saturday the fish went nuts...saw 15, 5 bites, and 1 caught fish. I have no idea what the heck I was doing wrong, but I couldn't keep a fish on my line to save my life that day. Anyone have any tips on how to hook/keep fish on when they bite spinner baits? I even added a treble hook to the trailer hook... Edited by whynot 6/30/2008 10:21 AM

Posts: 654 Location: MPLS, MN | Only Muskie Fishing I've done was opener. Caught a nice 44". Smallmouth Bass action on the Mississippi has been too good not to take advantage of. Probably time to turn my attention to Muskies though. Canada in 2 weeks....

Posts: 431 | Absolutely brutal. Beginning of March was pretty good, then the water came and ruined the rest of the year. Didn't even bother going to Kinkaid because it was a muddy mess for so long. Then I find out that my August trip to LOTW is a no go because I have to take a stupid 2 hour test (it's on ethics for lawyers, who needs that) on one of the days I was scheduled to go. Hopefully this fall will be good.

Posts: 2014 | It's been a pretty average year for me so far...15 fish in the net 7 over 40", roughly 6 hrs of fishing for each fish. Don't leave fish to find fish.

Posts: 256 | It took me 2 years of hard fishing to get my first one in the boat (51.5 no less...) last fall and this year I have already boated two! So I'm going to have to say that if I didn't catch another fish this year its already better than last year.

Posts: 20216 Location: oswego, il | Been a slow year so far. Only 5 fish but one of them was a personal best. I have not been out musky fishing as much, not traveling 3.5 to 4 hours when I know the bite is off so I bass fished local waters instead. When the bite is on it will be worth it to spend the money. The other bright spot of the year was last thursday when my 12 year old caught his third and best musky, a 37'er on a lake we went to after seeing the rain where we were headed. Posts: 282 Location: north west wisconsin | ive seen fish but nothing in the boat yet!! that's including two full day guided trips too. This has been one of my best years ever . I have over 100 fish in the boat with 7 over 47 . The thing I leared is Trolling is deadly in high water. Hopefully things stay this hot but the water is back to normal and fishing is allso back to normal.

Posts: 109 | I would have to agree. It has been quite slow. If it not for a dandy 52.5 incher, it would be a really slow year so far. It seems like just getting active follows is considered successful this year. -Conservation Guy Attachments ---------------- musky_3.jpg (280KB - 66 downloads)

Posts: 170 | I waited for open water, then ssssstuff came up that really held me back from being able to get to the cabin. First time up to muskie fish and we had motor problems, then two weks ago went up to N Twin with some friends/families for a vacation and I poked around...I blanked for the weekend and my buddy got a 32". (Weeds were WAY behind). I do know that one month from this exact moment, I'll be on one of my favorite spots up on Eagle (not sure which spot though!)...unless it's throwing bolts of lightening down, otherwise, it's go time!!

Posts: 13 | Have been out a handful of times, 2 fish in the boat, 1 40+, seen others. Was only completely, totally skunked once. The recent warm weather should get them kick started in northern WI. Attachments ---------------- Picture 1.png (267KB - 65 downloads)
