Ed Barrett (one of my very best friend's - now deceased) & I had a annual lure building bet. We would pick a lure style & build it over the winter. The only commercial lure component's allowed was the hook(s) or split ring (s). Whomever, caught the most fish by the end of summer on their lure won the bet, i.e., Ed went back to his day job in Florida in the fall (Ed & his wife had a house painting business in Orlando/Sanford). Any qualifying fish had to be caught while we were fishing together. The annual bet was usually pretty creative! One of my best win's was a small bucktail for pike, i.e. we both loved to fish pike. One 4" piece of steel wire, one blade clevis (created from a 1/2" piece of coat hanger), one treble hook, one split ring, one Leinekuegel's beer bottle cap/blade, a couple of beads from a rummage sale necklace, and one roadkill squirrel tail for hook decoration. This was back in my bachelor days, so I ate the squirrel. Some epoxy glue & string. I still have the lure! At his request, Ed's ashes were scattered on the water at his/our favorite river fishing spot. No, I don't fish with it anymore- to many good memories to risk losing it! The real trick is in the blade. I like to stop mine and let it flutter down and fish will inhale it either on the drop or the pickup. If the blade is to heavy, it sinks like a rock without fluttering/spinning. Try it, you just might make some memories of your own. Have fun! Al

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | Moore's is where I buy my supplies although I have picked up some blades at times on Ebay. I would suugest tying the bucktail on coils as opposed to tying on the treble hook. I just find it easier and neater looking on the coil and you don't cut the thread when you nick it on the point of the hook. I also get the coils from Moore's. He has plain coils or you can get weighted coils. Ken

Also staminainc, muskyshop and jannsnetcraft are good places too look for supplies. good luck and lets see what you come up with
