You are on a classic lake trout type lake with very clear water and mother nature has blessed you with little /no wind and blue bird skies , you can just tell by 11;00 am that the fishing is dead, no follows , no pike , no visable signs of life. What is the best technique for possably boating a fish? Slow and deep ? Slop ? Troll Cranks deep ? Take off and explore looking for new spots ? What do the guides and the pro's do under these poor conditions ? Thanks ManitouDan

MD,
I am by NO means a Pro on Canadian waters...but conventional wisdom would be your best chance would be during a change of conditions....be it weather (wind, precip, temp, etc) or as night falls. My thought would be that you want to be on the water at that time, for your best shot that is. Make sure NOT to burn yourself out for whenever that is going to be!!! Be on your best spots during those times, that may be your only shot.

Manitou Dan:

Believe it or not, my best results under the conditions specified have been with surface baits! Combine them with good "shallow water" spots and you are likely to see some of the biggest fish of your life! Take your time and pick the spots apart. Often multiple big fish will be in one small area unders these conditions. Don't always hit, but occasionally they make a mistake!!
