Location: Ames, Iowa | I've heard many times that Leech is a lake to fish after the 4th of July. What would account for the apparent lack of muskie/muskie fisherman activity before then? Is there something about temps (I know its a late spring everywhere), lake type, forage, what? Is this typical of Mille Lacs too? What would your mid June strategy be if you were on Leech's main lake?
Thank you,

Location: On your favorite spot | Mille Lacs seems to start late - might be due to the fish hanging out in open water after spawning until the weeds really come in, might be for some other reason.
The Leech Lake section in Fishing Reports at www.fishinfo.com has some commentary on this from Jim Murphy, Leech Lake guide, that might be relevant to your question, some info in particualar about fishing open water in Walker Bay during June.
