Posts: 189 Location: Hoboken, NJ / North Webster, IN | Hey guys, Well here's the story and the fly. My father had noticed a guy doing very well on a fly rod last fall. He told me about it, so I got him a 9wt outfit for xmas, and he gave me a 10wt for xmas(works out nice that way!). Up until this fish, largest thing I'd caught on a fly rod was about a 12" rainbow last fall...and that was my first fly fishing trip. So broke out dad's fly rod and the below fly on last tuesday, and had 3 follows that evening. Next day took it out again and got the fish above. Cast toward a shoreline, stripped it in at a medium pace. I saw the fish following about 10' out, kept stripping, and then before I got to the leader just started twitching the fly to the boat. The day before one of the fish followed to the boat and I didn't know what to do(can't figure 8...rod tip too thin) so just twitched it. That fish flared it's gills twice under the fly and literally nosed the fly, then swam away. So this fish, I twitched the fly twice boatside then just let if fall.....two feet from the boat I see the fish under the fly, S-curve up, flare the gills grab and go. Fight lasted about 8-10 minutes(13lb leader is way different then 80lb power pro). Finally got her in the net with much relief. So there's the story...thanks for all the comments boys. Must've been a good weekend for it! I caught three on the fly on Sunday before Memorial Day. All on a 9 wt rod with a sinking line, 5 foot leader with a 10 in, 36lb steel tippet. All 3 fish were between 25-32", but nice to break the ice with for sure..   | |||

Posts: 189 Location: Hoboken, NJ / North Webster, IN | Oh yeah, as for the color. My father and I thought it was such a pretty and unique fish too. The area I caught it has very stained water.
