Posts: 52 | Anybody been fishing lakes in Madison yet? I'm heading up to Waubesa next Sunday to spend a couple of days with my best fishing partner, my son. Any muskies on any of them besides Wingra? Is the launch at Wingra finished yet? Any hot spots on Waubesa that you are willing to share for bass, crappie or anything that would keep a 12 year old interested? Thanks MuskieFirst clan!

weed growth and water temps on the big lakes are way behind....fish are not moving much ...best bet is to fish shallow over any new weed growth you can find on the north or south ends of waubesa... bass have been hitting better of late and you will get some while musky fishing. the landing on wingra is not done yet but it is usable.. hopefully we start to get some sun and warm weather to get the fish out of the post spawn mode soon!

when i was out on Waubesa on saturday there were a goodly number of crappie fishermen hanging out just off the weedline (if you can call it that) in about 8' of water off Hog's Island. quite a few other boats were slowly drifting slip bobber rigs over the shallow (4-5') flats on the south end. i'm not much of a panfisherman, but it seemed pretty clear that the panfish had not moved up into the shallow spawning areas yet. there was a bass tournament going on, and the boats were definitely concentrated on the available weeds, far south, central east and far north ends; looked like a lot of guys pitching small jig/plastics. water temps were 56-57.

I had to...after not seeing a fish on monona/wauby 2 x out I figured I might as well go to the beginner lake to see one...14 fish in the boat in a week ... better than a sharp stick in the eye right? all on your favorite baits EA... once water temps get to where they should be I won't be back....I'll let the Flatlanders have their pond back

Posts: 574 | Havent seen anything decent on Monona yet but have caught a few from Waubesa. Black spinners and rubber. Bass are biting everywere theres weed growth, preferably in about 5-6 fow. We had 5 bass over 14" and 2 pike over 35" on Wednesday chasing skis. The bass seemed to like the perch pattern. Good luck

Posts: 52 | Had a great time on Waubesa on Monday! Water temps were right around 59. Caught 12 Crappie on the east side of the lake with Mighty Mites while they were on their beds. Other boats using live bait had "baskets" full. Looked like they were limiting out. Seen the largest Musky of my life in about 15 feet of water just out for a stroll. 50+ Bass were hitting in 2.5 feet of water along the shore as well. No Northern although one would have hit my son's bait had he not pulled out of the water asking "what is that fish". Gool luck.

Crappies on waubesa are in the shallows spawning..pretty easy pickins..I have let all go and hope most guys do the same for the future..but they have been fun to catch... muskies are still hit and miss...waubesa is 59-62 and weeds are starting to grow ... Monona is about the same...wingra has been the most consistent...
