Nik, Dane and I got out for a pre-Mother's Day 'boy's day out' today. Weather was clear but cool and the water was a bit off color from runoff. Temps ranged from about 51 in the deeper parts of the reservoir to nearly 54 on some shallow shelves. I tried to cast for a while but after enduring about 600 lure changes for my boys I decided to pull out the trolling gear. They never protest too much about trolling since the cooler becomes fair game then too.
Dane was up first and was apparently a bit rusty from last fall as his fish got away part way to the boat. Nik showed no signs of off season confusion as his clicker came to life for his turn. He grabbed the rod out of the holder and with only a minimum of coaching, his first tiger of 2008 slid into the net. And I thought all of the 27.5" fish had grown up . Don't worry Pointer, I marked a waypoint for you!
Tomorrow is Mom's day and somehow I don't think we'll be going fishing; we had a good enough time today to last for a bit anyway.
S.

nice tiger, Niklas!

me and Knick the Dog hit the local pond for a couple hours after work on Friday. this 37"er graced our net after falling to a Bobbie Bait twitched over the shallow weeds.
then it decided to try and bite the hand that releases...

tried Waubesa for the late-morning/early afternoon, one small pike was all. water temps were still in the 56-57 degree range, with cold wind and weather coming in from the east all day. the water's still pretty dirty out there as well. it'll be interesting to see the WMT results from Madison this weekend.

my brother-in-law Tim (river runt) and our buddy Dan played hookey from work on Friday out on Redstone. the fish were moving pretty well, with 2 follows, 2 fish lost, plus 2 undersize, a 36", and a 40" in the net.
finding warm water temps plus current seemed to be working.

Nice fish guys. Tim, I'm glad I didn't accept your "challenge" on Friday. ...Although fishing sounds like a hell of a better time than writing this 10-pg. paper! Only a few more days...

I fished Okauchee on Saturday from 5:30 to 11:00 AM. I boated a 40" musky that had lots of spawning wounds. It put up a great fight. It was the only musky I saw all morning. Water temp was about 55 degrees. I also missed a small northern and boated a 15.5" Largemouth. All action came twitching a 6" White (superman) Jake with a little white twister tail off the back hook.

I hit the lake Saturday with my good friend Ray to see if we could hook him up with his first Musky. After 8 hours without seeing a fish, we were able to double up within the next hour. My friend boated his first -- a heathy, aggresive post-spawn 38 and I was able to boat a 42. All-in-all, a great day on the water.

Yeah, no muskie pics, although did have 2 bite off on Saturday.
Smallies and 'eyes are on fire, some of the best early fishing I've ever seen. Daytime bite, MinnowRaps and TailDancers, no live bait hassles. Lots of fish with big ones mixed in. I can deal with no muskie season for 2 more weeks with fishing like this.

JS

Interesting side note: Had a few smallies in the 15 inch range with fresh bite marks, and there are no pike in this lake.

We got out here in NW Pa, water temps were 60-62 degrees. Boated one nice female that went 43", full of eggs that she just started to drop.

Managed to have one swing and miss on a bulldawg. Had another boat have a few follows. Water temps were 54.6 to start and ended with 55.9 at the warmest we could find. Did manage a 34 " relative to the muskie that inhaled a bulldawg. It was nice to get the heart started until I saw the spots on the side of it. NIce weekend at least to finally get out.

Hey Lambeau,

Nice ski! Was that Redstone in Sauk county you fished friday? If so, what's the water temp now? I was there opening day and the main lake was 49 and the warmest bay was 52.
Thanks

Amidsts the adverse conditions, Pointerpride and I got out for a couple hours Sunday afternoon/evening. For the conditions we had, I can't complain with what we ended up with. Got a real nice limit of walleyes, a couple pike, a few smallies and one that measured out at 20 1/2.

The Consolidated Musky Club held its' first annual spring outing on waters south of highway 10 this past weekend. Anglers could fish any body of water they chose, though had to be at the headquarters by 5PM. We actually had a pretty nice turn out for the event Saturday, and a few fish even cooperated for the participants. The event was held at Anchor Bay bar and Grill on the WI River south of Stevens Point, and they did a great job accomodating us. My dad was nice enough to fish with me for the day, and even brought us some luck.
The results are as follows:
1st place, Tie:
Jeff Walczak-41"(jeffs boy also lost a big fish)
Don Schillinger-41", 36.5"

2nd place:
Jason Schillinger 38.5"

3rd Place:
Matt Brinkman 37.5"

For anyone interested in jopining the club, or participating in one of our upcoming outings, please email or call me.

I fished with my kids in the 22 Anual Milwaukee Chapter Pewaukee Classic. We raised 20 muskies, caught 3 and 2 bass. Great tourney and time. The best part was my daughter took 2nd place over all with a 39.5-inch fish. She had one other fish hit but it came off. I got 2 muskies but they were small.

Man, the only part that sucks about living in MN is watching you guys fish for muskies when we can't. This blows...we still have another month to go!!

Nice fish though. I'm happy for you all...really!!
