I'm looking at getting a boat and considering a used tuffy esox mag for under $ 7,000. I have no expierence with these boats and was conserned with there depth and how stable they would be when casting on a windy day. And I'm not talking 3 foot waves either . Any insight will help me out. thanks brandon

i have run that boat on rainy,l.o.w.,wabaskang and many other lakes as well as the mississippi river.it is a very stable boat and trolls/handles extremely well.although it has a low profile it will handle way more water than you would think.mine had a 60hp tiller that ran just over 30mph loaded. i have had it in some very tough conditions[3 footers plus] and only ever took 3 waves over the bow which were my fault anyway. i have back trolled it where the waves were breaking over the wave whackers[!] and had great control while my buddy in his ranger with a windshield was "sailing" the point and not able to keep control.over all it's not a lake erie boat but a very fishable well made medium water boat, probably one of the best river boats out there.

Posts: 814 | Brandon E-Mags Rock IMO they are the best Musky boat for lakes under 5k acres....but will work on much larger waters, I took mine to Georgian Bay, LOTW, Eagle, with no problems. For what lakes your fishing and the price I don't think there's anything better, It floats in about a FOW, catches hardly any wind, boat control is excellent, I ran a 24v 74lb thrust and never had issues. Also its rides smoother than you think very stable and easy to control, very dry in crosswinds also. If you have any more ?'s email me and I'll be glad to help Mike Leombruni

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I have had my Magnum since 1992! I have been on over 40 miles of the Winnepeg River in the Minaki area which has some big water in it, Wabigoon by Dryden, ONT which is very big water in the worst of wave conditions, and all over Wisconsin. I wouldn't want a steady diet of them but I had to deal with a 8 mile trip into unforcasted 3-4'+ waves on Wabigoon. For shear stability, I have had two clients out at once, with the "little" guy being over 350 lbs.! All three of us fishing off the same edge caused no problems! Just as you have to with ANY boat you have to keep your eyes open and be aware of conditions. In 2'+ waves at the end of a drift, when you quarter into the wind as you turn to go directly into the waves, some water could splash into the boat. But you learn how to deal with the conditions to eliminate the situation. The sponsoned hull tends to keep the boat above the waves and shoot the water horizontally away from the boat, rather than up. I added a rear casting deck. I guide from the back. My monster Frabill fits right under the deck. I have a console and a 115hp Yamaha. The console has never gotten in the way when fighting a fish, in fact I can pass by the console on the tight side if need be. When you get your Magnum, contact me and I can talk through some personal touches that may prove beneficial to your use. There are alot of more expensive boats, but none that I would rather fish out of!
