| This question popped into my head when I was skimming the world record scenario stuff. Do the people making replicas need a dead fish to make a mold for a replica? That is, if someone did catch the world record and wanted to release it could they take a bunch of measurements and get an accurate replica made?
Thanks,

| Sure.....it's already been done. The FWFHF has a replica of Louie Spray's supposed WR on display. It was done by Artistic Anglers of Duluth. A lot of replicas have been created from dimensions of fish that have been released or never actually existed. |

| a mold is not required. i think lax has done the natural and tiger records for guides choice in eagle river. lax and fittiante (im sure i messed that one up) are two that i know of. |

| Actually if you want an "accurate reproduction" of a legit WR, it should be kept for the purpose of making a mold. That will produce an exact [depending on the ability of the mold maker] and accurate reproduction of the actual fish. If your only interest is an approximation of the length and girth of the fish then a model or replica is probably sufficient. Once the fish is released it becomes impossible to create what could be thought of as an accurate "scientific" reproduction of that particular fish. Then we must get into the realm of creating an art piece which may or may not be representative of the actual WR that was caught. The replica of the Spray fish at the FWFHF is just such a piece of creative sculpture which leads us into the realm of "smoke and mirrors."
