Catch a fish on the very first cast of the season?
What was the soonest that you got bit?
The best that I could do was on opening day, but it was toward evening and I put on a brand new Sandcat and caught a fish the first time that it hit the water. Haven't caught a fish on it since.
There have to be some good stories out there.

When I was pretty young on my first muskie trip in eagle river, we stopped at the mepps factory and I had them make me a custom bucktail. When we arrived at the lake I jumped out of the car of the fishing pole in hand and pulled the new bucktail in the water next to the dock to see how it looked in the water...boom! a low 30's hit it right away, but got off...still was a pretty crazy thing especially when you are a little kid.....

2 years ago on Opening Day on Pewaukee my partner Sanks had a 36"r the 1st cast. I had just motored up to a spot, turned off the main and was getting my rod out of the holder and I hear "Here's one get the net". I didn't even have time to take the lure out of the holded down on the rod. Then about 1/2 hour later he has another one on, I tried my hardest to knock it free with the net, but he was ready and got it over the lip. 2 fish in a 1/2 hour. Later that morning he had a chance at a 3rd but couldn't get the bite at boatside.

All this after a Friday night at the Water Front and him staying up most of the night telling fish stories. The only redeeming grace was that by 3:00 in the afternoon I was in the front of the boat listening too him sawing wood on the rear casting deck. Got a picture of that along with his 2 opening day fiah.

Hopefully the same action tomorrow,

My friend and I took a guy I worked with at the time musky fishing for the first time. He was a big trout guy and we kept telling him the whole way to the lake, "Don't get discouraged, you really have to work for these fish." Jawed his ear off about how you cast and cast and cast, but when you start seeing them it will get your blood pumping like you can't believe. 10 minutes in (and switching baits already because he's bored), he pulls out a TopRaider and catches a low 30's on the first cast with it. He took a pic of him releasing it at 5:07pm. We took the next pic of him releasing 35 at 5:14. He literally boated two fish within 20 minutes of ever putting a line in the water. "What are you guys talking about, this is hard fishing?"

Once the new year, ie, new season in Indiana, roles around and once I manage to get out...I haven't been so fortunate enough to get a fish on the first cast of that new season for myself...but...I have been fortunate enough to get fish on the first day I get out each season for the past several seasons.

My best "first catch" was a few years ago when I bought myself a new boat (used...but new to me)....first day I had that boat out on the water to go fishing, first cast in the new boat...boom! Netted a 42 inch Weagle fish. I knew this boat was going to have some good karma after that...

I caught one on the first cast of the season in the early 90's.She was 42",a personal best at the time and thought I will get LOTS of fish this year.I was wrong.Took me 3 1/2 months to get another! Aint that muskie fishing!!! The fish hit a # 5 Mepps, yellow going upcurrent in a river... I have also caught muskies on the first cast of the day and the last cast of the day.I get real lucky sometimes!
