Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Looking for a good underwater camera. Nice portable one to take to Canada for a boat in fishing trip this spring. Anyone have a good suggestion or comments on ones like the Aqua-Vu DT7? Would be nice too if it had the hookup to capture underwater video with it. Thanks

Just want to see setups for riggin the lures, line, camera and keel weights on the camera unit. TIA James

One last request. Does anyone have a picture of how they setup their underwater camera to run while taking video of lures running right behond the camers? Just want to see setups for riggin the lures, line, camera and keel weights on the camera unit. pick up the new Pike and Muskie special issue of In-Fisherman. it's got an article specifically about trolling video setups using an Aqua-Vu camera and downriggers. i'm sure you could use it as a guide even without downriggers.

Location: Green Bay, WI | I just got a great deal on an Aqua Vu Scout SRT at Fleet Farm--they have them on sale there now. I got the camera and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) for *well* under $500. I searched a lot on the internet, and FF has the best prices I have found. As for setting things up, I have been talking to Don Schwartz, the fellow that records all these great close-up videos of muskies attacking a trolled lure. This fellow is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to underwater recording, and posts on all the forums as "Dons." There is an active thread on the MH site right now in fact, and I think you'll find it very helpful. TB

Posts: 20 | Hello: Sorry to join in so late on this. I have used only the Aqua-Vu cameras, I do not have any expierence with the Markam cameras . As far as my expierences with the Aqua-Vu I can not complain at all. I would make sure you really take the time to think about what you want from the camera and then try and make time to use it. I posted this on another site, but many folks buy them and never use them much. My mission was to try and get Muskie footage, I had a blast doing it and saw some remarkable fish, not only size but crazy little things they do. If you have any questions I would be happy to try and answer them for you. I am sure as people start doing more filming many new creative ideas will come out. Posts: 32954 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I am using an Aqua Vu color unit and an Aqua Vu B&W both running while casting. I have the camera mounted on the electric motor foot this year, and on an Aqua Vu boom I can mount in a rod holder and point the direction I want. Should get some good stuff this season!

Posts: 20 | Steve: That sounds great and should work well, I made a similar contraption. I just use a old trolling motor mounted to a Aqua-Vu. I do not have a color unit however, I cant wait to see the footage you get. Steve is there a way to mount your Hydra phone while trolling the baits ? I been wanting to try this? Should I post a couple underwater photos of fish I recorded on the In-Fish DVD ? It may fit well with the post regarding Keeping a big Musky! In reality it is just as fun for me to get one on the camera as it is to catch one. I get to re-live it over and over again. Thanks Don

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | For the morons out there (AKA me) which video software would you buy for working with your videos? So far I have suggestions of: 1) Windows Movie Maker 2) Vegas Video 3) Final Cut Pro 4) ??? Don/Steve, Thanks for a great article(Don) and the help(Don and Steve)! I hate starting out with new technology and you two made it real easy to buy the right gear for doing this! I will post back the exact model numbers and gear I buy with pictures for all to see what I am doing. I will try to do this before I lose all of my stuff to a big rock! LOL Thanks, James PS-Got the Aqua Vu SRT and getting the downrigger, Archos, and all the little items in the next week. Then out on Waconia or Minnetonka to troll some lures with no hooks to see what footage I can get. This will make a whole new fishing experience trolling. I have so many ideas for this! Can't wait to start testing others(and my own) theories on what makes muskies and pike tick.... Edited by tacklebooty 5/1/2008 8:25 AM

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | In short one of my ideas is to get the camera/rigging away form the boat. You could do this using another small floating contraption. You could rig it with a few pulleys for your downrigger cable and camera cable so you could still adjust the depth from your boat. This would keep your lure away from other "distractions" for the muskie/pike. Drag on your rig woudl be key depending on the weight of your downrigger ball. Less is better I think?... If trolling this rig right behind your boat, it would also give you a few seconds to adjust to upcoming structure that could rip apart your equipment. Other ideas but just need time to use this and tinker. I think a glass bottom boat would be nice too Edited by tacklebooty 5/1/2008 9:12 AM

Posts: 20 | James: I like your ideas here, I have been also playing with Planner boards. I was also told that the Markum cameras are real nice as well. Maybe whoever made the post on them up above would want to tell us more. I am really sold on the Aqua-Vu but we should all be open minded to new products. Don

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | If I could afford one I would think running a Motor Guide trolling motor in combo with an electric downrigger woudl be cool. EX: Set the motor at 18 foot and your downrigger at 16 foot and just troll troll troll and watch those fish. Can't wait!!
