This question bugs me to no end. Here is why I hate the term.

There is no "best" as there are many on the market that are so closely superior that a best could never be named. AND if there was a "BEST" you would not have to hear it here as everyone would have one (or however many) because word would get out and that is what folks would buy. Remember, no best reel, no best rod, no best line, no best lures, no best boat, no best leader, no best net etc..........

So why is this? Because in fishing there is never a constance like all the lakes are the same size and depth (meaning some boats are better on some lakes than others), all the baits are not the same weight or even need the same action to work, and the list goes on.

So I normally skip questions that ask "what the best" because many times the angler asking the question rarely defines the conditions that it will be used in. And after all that too many times is come down to preference. Some like this and others like that, just how can you get a best from that?

So keep asking the the impossible.

I think some people are just trying to find out what everyone else thinks is the "best". I tend to agree with the above and try to put it into "better" I guess for the situation. Every situation has a better, but that varies from place to place and person to person and it changes all the time (with lures). One person's better might be the next worst. And I hate pissing contests between products and I hear it all the time in outdoors retail.

Maybe wording it as, "what do you think is better in....."

Muskie! Nut, you're the best!

I guess the other thing I question is answers from those with sponsors. Coincidence the best product may be from their sponsors. They could be, but I still wonder what if any influence the recommendation has.
