Location: Mpls, MN | Just curious if there is an easy way to tell the difference between the old wood Phantoms and newer plastic ones? Was going through mine and I know most are wood but some were right around the time things changed.

| If you use them a little longer the clear coat will start to chip off and you'll know it's one of the wooden variety. Not all the wood ones are created equal but when you get one that works the plastic versions can't compete! |

| "But when you get one that works, the plastic versions can't compete". Wood or plastic, they ALL work. Obviously varying densities of wood may allow the bait to work differently, but they all work. The old "Reef Hawg" syndrome. "But...but.... ya gotta buy 5 to get one that runs right". No, they all run right, just might not work the way YOU want it to work. Baits are like people(LOL X 1000) and each has it's own personality.Hahahahahaha. Steve |

| After dealing with this material myself I would think the new ones would work just like Todd himself planned. They will also be more consistant and more durrable. As critical as Todd seems to be about his lures combined with the fact that one can achieve any density with this material I would be willing to bet they will work better than the wood models..When I changed to plastic on the Bitten Tackle Warlocks the quality, durrability, and consistancy of the bait went way up and I would expect the same from Todds Phantoms...........Doug Bradley |

| The wooden phantoms simply have a better belly roll on the side to side swing which makes them all the more deadly. If you want an easy to work "automatic" glide bait buy a Hellhound. |

Location: Oregon | Remove one of the screw eyes and look at the threads and you should be able to tell if it's wood or plastic. As a side note, I have both wood and plastic versions and they swim nearly identical as far as I can tell.

Location: Grand Rapids MN | I don't own either but you would think the plastic would have some amount casting lines or marks from the punches that push them out of the molds. That's if they don't smooth those marks down before painting, which is a possibility. Just a thought and something to look for... |
