Location: Hayward, WI | I am wondering what makes you decide to snap on a Suzy Sucker vs. a Curley Sue, or a BullDawg/Super D vs. a Curley Sue, etc.
A lot of guys seem to start using the Suzy Sucker paddle tail during the fall. Any reason for that? Does it work better than a curleytail type bait? Is there a difference in how the Curley Sue fishes in comparison to the Bulldawg or Super D. or are there situations where you would use one curleytail type over the other?
The obvious answer is use what the fish tell you to, but what conditions warrant the use of each bait at the start of the day?

Location: New Brighton, MN | I found myself wondering the same thing today whild shopping online. Bulldawg vs. suzy sucker...
pros vs. cons? or is it more of what you're used to? type of plastic? I think the bulldawg has 2 trebles vs. one on the suzy sucker. can't find much difference otherwise.
any insights? |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Suzy Sucker or Curley Sues and SUPER D's are some of the best plastics you can buy, the newer M/I Bulldawgs are made of some cheap plastic that will not last a day of casting, the weights will rip out of the baits from casting. Plastics can be used year round, I like the long tails of the Super D's or the Curley Sues, but paddle tails can be burned across the top of the water for more sound. Most of the time I will only use 1 treble on a plastic bait because when a fish hits a plastic bait they will suck it all in to the gills, and one treble is much easy to get out.

While I do make the SuperD Andy makes one he11 of a lure and works his ars off for his customers!! I love the big Suzy Sucker with that big paddle tail. Thump thump thump!! I even put a mag rattle in the paddle tail of one of my big Suzy Suckers. IMO both mine and Andy's have good internal harnesses to keep those rubber bodies on so you can boat a lot of fish and get your moneys worth. I boated 7 big pike (32" to 45") on one MAG SuperD early June in Canada and my lure is still fishing! I have also given Andy's baits a big work over and no problems. I think everyone does not want to spend $12-$20 for a lure and watch it fall apart before it catches one fish. I like my killer Eel too. Those are good lures IMO.

| I use alot of paddle tails both rubberhairy tackle's and shacks.I like the rubberhairys swim n spin for burning over weeds during the summer,I think the added flash and vib from the blade really help and the shacks for slower presentations in the fall when water temps drop.just a plain jane swim when she gets cold.I like bulldogs for deep water suspendos cause they get down..my 2 cents.

Location: Appleton | Here is my take on soft plastics. Keep in mind I'm no expert. I used to use MI Dawgs for everything. I'd use reg/mag weighted for anything over 5 ft of water and shallow Dawgs for 5 ft and less. Since I've had many Dawgs fall apart before I could even catch a fish on them I took all the newer ones out of my box. Now I use Curly Sue's for the shallow water stuff and Super D's for the Deeper stuff. You could use Curly's for all but the sink rate on a Super D is much faster so you get better vertical movement on the bait. Both baits are built much tougher than the Dawgs. That is just my take. So no need to choose one over the other just buy both. |
