Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | Hey everyone, I hope your summer is going well. I can't believe we are into August already. I just got to go to Lake St. Clair last weekend for the first time. What a fishery! I be back there real soon. Here are a couple recent ones that I did. Mostly gliders. I love doing the natural ones. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | Hey thanks guys, I really enjoy doing the lures. I am trying to do some firetiger type paint jobs but it messes with me! LOL It takes longer to do those for me! LOL Live2fish.......... It was my first time to Lake St. Clair. I was amazed by the fishery. I am in the Cleveland Ohio area and couldn't believe how close it is to me. Like less than 5 hours. I could not believe how many muskies are in there. We were out 9 miles in the lake and it was only 20 feet deep on the Canadian side. We hooked 8 muskies the first day and hooked 2 more the next morning before the lake kicked up. The fish are like in the top 5 feet the time we were there. I was suprised how many people that were trolling bucktails. Our largest was only 45 inches but lost a couple that were bigger I believe. We did also catch a nice little tiger musky. I did hear guys on the radio that had 20 rips with several 49" fish caught. The baits that I brought up there were deeper models. Dang it! It was hard to hold them in that upper 5 foot range. I did catch the first fish of the trip on a little perch type bait off a boat rod. I will add some pics to this post. A fella that I work with caught the this nice 45 incher on a wileys bait. It is his biggest so far and was really happy for him. We will get him that 50" soon! I was also amazed how you fish for the St. Clair fish with the big planer boards and spreading the lines way out. I learned alot this trip. I know I will be back up there at least two more times this year. I see some more things I have to do my boat to tweek it out for the next time up there on the big water. But I was happy how it worked the first time. I need to make up shallow jointed type baits for the next trip. I turned some ceder jointed bodies this week to try out. Perch colors worked great along with chub/darter patterns. I will have a salmon pattern ready to go the next time also. Hey thanks again everyone for your support with the baits. What a great site this is. I hope everyones summer is going great with lots of fish! Shorter daylight and lakes freezing over thoughts turn to fishing lures. I will going to the Chicago Musky Show to hang out with some friends. I hope to meet people from this site. Send me a pm or something telling me where you'll be hanging out. Lots of great people here! I started to play more with some resin baits. I guess just a bit lazy on shaping the bodies over and over. Resins have their pluses and minus's. Posts: 399 Location: Burton, Ohio | I did do some cedar bodied shads also. I tapered the body width wise on the taper. I gave it more of a swimming actions than a wobble action. They trolled very smooth!
