Fished Saturday. Weather was pretty crappy, but it was nice to get out. Nice 15 degree temperature drop from the previous day. Air in the 40s, fairly steady rain until noon or so. Water temp ranged from 43 to 49 degrees. Heard water temp was up to 54 degrees on Friday. North end of the lake was really muddy with a couple inches of visibility. South end had a couple of feet of visibility. Ended up wasting half the day trolling (I hate trolling, but we had the roof up to stay somewhat dry) the north end in the mud because we didn't want to run back down south. Caught a 36" chunk by the dam. I saw a picture of a 48.5 x 24 that was caught earlier in the week.

If going to Kinkaid this weekend it might be helpful to check out chad cain's fishing report. The recent rains have trashed the lake - His guide team has cancelled all trips this week. The water level has risen above the fish barrier at the spillway too -

Paul,
How much rain did they get at Kinkaid? We got about 4" 60 miles northwest of St. Louis. Southern MO got 12"

My niece was driving from Carbondale and told me the roads where flooded and one road was closed. She had to make a detour to get back to Cape Girardeau. She had more than 12" of rain.

Just to clarify guys, the lake is in high flood stage, but the lake is not closed nor is every guide trip cancelled for this weekend. Some trips are still going, but for the most part, clients have rescheduled. The lake will settle back to normal pool in the next couple days and fishing will resume as normal...hopefully.

Thanks,
Scott

Just got back from Kinkaid, three words tough, tough, tough fishing. High water, chocolaty brown in many areas and a cold front blowing in late friday night. Water temps ranged from 44ish in the main lake to 52 in some of the fingers. We were able to stick a 36 incher on friday and had one strike saturday. Talked to a couple of guys who caught a 41 and 47 on bass sized grubs. Although we didn't have the best of luck it was nice to get out and try some of the new baits purchased over the winter.

On Shelbyville I had 4 follows and missed one on an 8. Fish came on gigantic custom lures but were too sluggish to hit anything hard. Water was also chocolaty with visibility of about a ft. Water temps were in the low 40's with the lowest temp being 38. No one I talked with had any luck for anything.

The water near the #*^@ was the clearest water in the lake by far.
