Installed a 5200 two days ago. The unit does not seem to be recognizing the puck is attached and keeps defaulting to demo mode, extremely frustrating. Chip is working, just not the GPS - anyone had this problem before? I'm at the end my rope and I'm about to go postal on it.

I checked all the obvious stuff, connections, etc.

Are you sure it's not on demo mode? You have to actually turn demo mode off manually.

Got power to the puck?

I screwed that up when I hooked mine up the first time.

Sounds like you have a different issue than I had. But when I hooked mine up intially, it would acquire a signal and then loose it within seconds and would never be able to acquire it again. In that sense, it was almost as if the puck wasn't there as it never gained a signal. My issue was a simple one...I had the puck too close to the unit. Moved it another 18" away and it worked flawlessly.

I turned demo mode off manually and it always defaults back because it doesn't have anything else to do.

No other places on the puck to hook up power, assumed it would come through the cord that attaches it to the unit.

Tried all kinds of puck locations in open spaces under clear skies. When I turn the unit on, it doesn't even appear to be unable to locate a signal, it just doesn't seem to realize it's got the puck hooked up. Double checked the manual, everything is connected exactly the way it's supposed to be. Thanks for the tips so far

The puck needs to be powered!

There's no extra hookups for the puck though - would assume the power is provided through the cord that hooks into the unit.

There are two "connections" on the power cord. Both of them have to be run to power.

Look on page 12 of the manual. The LGC - 3000 puck requires power.
There are three sets of wires on your power connection.
1) Power to the 5200C unit
2) Power to the LGC - 3000 puck
3) Data connections
I just had the same issue when installing a new LCX 112C today.

Thanks dave and reelman - you were both right, finally found the answer on the website and realized what you were actually talking about made sense. Luckily I'm smarter when it comes to fishing than I am with my electronics. Much relieved!

Marc, Don't feel bad I hear the same thing wither on the internet or in person AT LEAST 50 to 75 times per year! I think Lowrance could do a little better job in there instruction book.

Marc,
I'm a pro staffer for Lowrance here in Wisconsin. Don't feel bad alot of people have been overlooking that issue. Just make sure you hook it up to a swirched 12v supply so it doesn't drain your battery. Easiest way to do it is through a free acc switch that most boats have, then when you turn on your master power you will have power running through that switch to the puck. Any other questions feel free to ask, if I don't have the answer I will try and find it for you.
