| Other that jerkbaits I find myself throwing a lot of small stuff on opening day.
Who out there starts with big baits right away on opening day? |

| Eventhough I like to throw lots of smaller lures for opener, I will also be throwing some Reef Hawgs with a slow cadence and some Undertakers worked slowly. I'm sure a couple of Suicks will see some action as well as a few Cobbs, the original ones that float and run shallow.
One year for opener I saw a 4 footer swimming in 3 feet of water with a 2 pound+ sucker clasped in its jaws. I looked at the #5 Mepps that I was throwing and laughed.
That same weekend I was taking a break, skipping tubes under docks for smallies, and caught a 7 pound walleye and had a brief encounter with an upper 30 inch ski.
NO RULES!!!

| Opener for us in the North is the third Saturday in May. Our water temps usually are in the high 50's to low 60's then, so I will start with big stuff right away. This year I am looking forward to my new 10" Suicks, my big Slammers, my new Hologram Reef Hawgs,Undertakers, and the new topwaters from Musky Buster, Cisco Kid,Violent Strike, and Ty Sennet. And to think I started the WInter thinking I didn't need any new baits!
I will also be tossing creatures on the rocks if the weather has the fish 'down'. |

| OUR opener was just after the ice went out, and we did well on baits from 8 to 12" (un very slowly granted)...but we where talking hungry pre-spawn fish. Now when I hit S.WI, I plan on going to 6-7" lures, but if that doesnt work quickly, I'll be hitting the big stuff. I figure its the size of the forage that matters. Fish are eating when they chase a bait, give them something the size of their usual meal?

| I am toying with the idea of throwing big lures for the northern Wis openner. I normally stick with Mepps #5's, and have had great luck with them. To be honest, I will be happy throwing a can of budwiser with some hooks in it for muskies when the openner finally gets here! I am going out of my mind waiting!!! |

| 8" jakes and 11" bootails are bout' as big as I've gone on opener. |

| Our opener is in June, my depth raiders are the smallest baits in my box. I will start the year off with 10" spinnerbaits, 10" reef hawgs, super topraiders and other similer baits. [:sun:] [] [:p] |

| Bill,
I have a hunch we wont be trolling wishmasters this next Saturday.[]
Looks like 5",6" Slammers and Undertakers will take the cake!!! |
