Posts: 35 | These words probably don't go together, but here goes. Is it possible to get a set-up for throwing DC-10's and the bigger soft plastics on somewhat of a budget? I am leaning towards a Garcia 7000 reel, but am undecided on a rod. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I threw them on a 8'6" Mania rod and a 6600 Rocket last year. Right combo probley not but thats what reel was on the rod at the time. Lanced 2 fish on it so worked for the moment. This year I'll have the DC's on the same rod with a Shimano Corvalus.

Posts: 716 | Shimano Compre Rods 8' XH around 110$ lifetime warrenty, great action, all you need. Reels that hold up for under $200 are a tough bet, most of the sub $200 reels won't hold up to the abuse.

Posts: 431 | Depends on what you mean by cheap. You can probably find a used Abu Garcia 7000 for around $100 depending on the model. I might have one or two that I can part with in a week or so. As far as the rod, it depends on the size lures you want to throw. I'm getting a Musky Innovations rod, but only because I have a bunch of Cabela's dollars to spend.

Askin cause i got a rod the loads up so much with a double 10 that i can only keep the bait one speed.

Posts: 663 | Garcia 7000I reel (the red one) should do the trick and they're priced at about $130.00. If you can afford a bit more take a look at the 7000ICS it's about twenty bucks higher.

Posts: 35 | I was thinking this reel. (7000 model) I have some Cabelas bucks to spend as well. Any thoughts? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=00360... As far as the Shimano rod. Do they have alonger rear handle? I have a couple Guide Series rods that I use and the handles are a bit shorter than I'd like. Edited by 257ROBT 2/12/2008 8:20 PM

Posts: 273 | I wouldn't recomend using a C4 with bucktails, especially one with double 10's. You will burn that thing up before your morning break. Jeff
