Manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty, what does that mean

It genearlly means that the manufacture will cover breakage from material defects but not from you stepping on it. Unconditional lifetime warranties are a thing of the past as there is always way to much abuse of the system and people never buy a new rod, just purposly break there rod when they want a new one.

You and I have already talked about the Compre. I do think that's a great rod for the money. However, it sounds like the Okuma rods are worth a look too. I don't have any experience with them, but when I was thinking about getting a new rod this year I was considering the Okuma and Compre. Do a little research on them and see what you think.

Also, I do like my Gander Mountain Tournament Series. Make sure you get the Tournament Series in IM-8, not the other IM-8 rod they have. My 8 footer is rated for 1.5-4 ounce baits and it does throw baits a little lighter fairly well. I haven't tried throwing anything much heavier with it, but it does a really great job throwing and working weagles. I also think Gander Mountain will take pretty much anything back if it breaks. If it was obviously abused maybe not, but I took a Gander Mountain reel back once, and they exchanged it no questions asked. The Gander rod was either 79.99 or 89.99.

I'll 2nd the Gander rod, I think it's as good as my Crioxs and Loomis rods at half or more of the cost, end of season will be the true test as to what rods are rtill going. I did fish 2 HMX rods for a couple years with no problems. Berkley Tactix may be worth a look to at $60

Daiwa Heartland-S Specialty Musky Casting Rod from Rollie & Helen's

A little on the heavy side but as sturdy as you'll need to start for general use. A great value.

I will give another vote for the gander guide series rods. I have 7 gander rods and think they are the best buy for the money. Buy a gander rod and you will still have some money left over for a few baits.

Okuma EVX-C-861H-T

8 1/2' Heavy Telescoping. I love that rod. Throws a wide variety of baits.

It would depend on what rods I have already. Currently I am looking at a Okuma x-heavy in 8 1/2 ft.

Buy used!

There's usually a bunch of higher end rods being sold on the board here. You can get a $200 rod for around 1/2-2/3 the price of new most of the time.

Gander Muskie Rods are very decent and quite cheap. Spend cash on the reel, get a rod with good performance and a great warranty (like gander) and you'll be fine. Gander has accepted several exchanges from me without question.

Second that on the Gander exchange for products that go bad. That's why I'm running their reels...never did find one that could hold up....now when they go, I just exchange...just keep the reciept

The Gander rods are a heckuva deal for 80 dollars. Good fishing rod light enough to throw all day.
