I have a burt that I can't get to run right. It has a mind of it's own. When it runs right it is great and I have caught my biggest fish with it. Other times I clip it on and it rolls to the surface all the time. I have tried messing with the eye, but can't get it to adjust right. What the heck am I doing wrong?

tuning can be done with a small knife or razor, looking at the bait head first to tail down, if the bait is running to the right, lightly shave the leftside and try. Just the opposite side if running left. Also if the middle hook is hanging up on its back, smiply take your needlenose and slightly open the gap on the treble, this will stop the hang-ups and also improve action.I have had bad luck bending the eye to correct bait function, just my opinion.

Check it's not leaking first! They usually leak and you have to seal all the hook and line attachment loops with epoxy. Inconsistant running is a classic symptom of a bait which is taking on water.

I'm guessing if you "T" the middle hook that will stop it from hanging up on the back.

I don't know why, but my best running Burts have been absolutely hammered and the front "lips" are all broken and chipped. Must balance my baits out or something, but until then they worked okay. Now, i hammer all my Burts in that manner and they run pretty great.
