I was looking at some baits on Ebay today. What the heck are some people thinking when they bid on stuff? There are some USED Mag Dawgs selling for around $16 plus $5 shipping. Why pay those prices for used when I can get a new one for 16-18 bucks at Gander Mountain? Most of them weren't any special hard to find colors either - black/orange and the like. What really got me, and made me post this was the 10" perch pattern Storm Kick'n Minnow. With 4 hours left it is up to $22.59 with $5 shipping. Basspro has the SAME bait for $5.69. It's starting to make me think I should list all my baits, I might get more for them than what I paid.

Rant over.

That's definitely a puzzler. $24 for a Kickin Minnow, wow. I know I've read where some people get buzzed by winning a bid regardless of price. They're in it to win and price doesn't matter. It would make sense in the examples you posted, but who really knows.

You're right...list a bunch of stuff...the insomniacs and people addicted to eBay will gobble it up!

People do get carried away on Epay..but other reason things go high also...
High percent of that stuff you see going higher than cost at shops has shippers willing to ship to UK an Canada cheaply.
Most tackle shops don't do that an lures people want to try or feel they could really use are very hard to find in homelands.
I send stuff over all the time to friends at cost....makes them very happy.

Epay can be a cheap fun sorce of entertainment for some...what ever whinds thier binder I guess.
Cheap thirlls for others as stated above --- THEY WIN!

I also saw the kickin minnow. The high bidder is from the UK. Makes a little more sense I guess. You'd be amazed what people will do to get baits. Had a person inquire about shipping some Rapala fat raps that I currently have on ebay to Thailand.

Remember if the buyer is in the UK he is also using a currency that has the highest value of any currency out there. His exchange rate for US dollars will cut that price down some for him.

I saw the Kickin Minnow today too. I need that guy bidding on my stuff! As Fred said, "oh well". Still could not believe that $23 Kickin Minnow though. I will go to Gander and buy those all day if I can get that for them! LOL

Here's an update. I guess I understand guys from the UK paying more for baits. BUUUTTTT, the winner of the Kick'n Minnow auction was from the USA! The final price was $26 plus 5 for shipping. The Same guy got a real deal on a firetiger Minnow for 9 dollars and change. Do you suppose I should contact him and see if he wants some more deals?

Well I have to admit I have purchased quite a few baits from the EBAY. I live in northern Ontario and don't have acess to the selection that you guys in the states do. My local shop is very overpriced as the stock is years old and purchased when our dollar was weaker. Now our dollar has been near par and I have acess to what ever I can find. When I order from Rollie or thorne bros I have to pay duties of 15% on the order plus shipping. (or from drifter with a $25 shipping!) wheres on ebay if I buy from the same seller I usually pay on average about $2 extra to ship. They mark as a gift and I don't pay the duties. Sometimes the $10 extra is worth it when no one else has it or you really want it! Say what you will but I did pay $41 for a manta recently online, but you know it will see $40 worth of use by the second week of the season. With all the mantas I purchased over the last couple of months I averaged $31 each. Delevered to my door! I could drive to Toronto to JB's and pay $28.99 each, but it's a 9 hour return trip. and I'm sure the gas prices are the same in Canada as in the States. So point is I'm Happy with the ebay. I have also bought of this site as well with great sellers!

I saw two Huddleston trout about 6 weeks ago. One went for $90 plus and the other one I think went for over $100. New from the factory they are $39.99

Great bait but, obviously some people just didn't know what they retail for.

with certain items, it's worth paying more in order to be able to buy it right away rather than ordering from the "factory" (lol...his garage) and waiting an unknown amount of time for it to get made and shipped. with certain small bait producers that can take awhile, and drives up the value of the item on the secondary market.

a couple years ago hybrid cars were selling for more used than new because people didn't want to wait 6 months to get a new one on back-order. same thing.

To lambeau's point...look what went on with the Weagle 2 years ago. $100 plus for a weagle. Guys went nuts for those for about 18 months. Some of those were fun to watch.

If you guys saw the prices some of the lures are in the UK you would know why we pay more on Ebay, for example one shop here is charging £19.99 ($40.00) for a Magic Maker, same price for a Squirrely Burt and hes called The Friendly Fisherman so you wouldnt want to meet the Unfriendly one! also the stores in the US shipping rates are very high these days like $31.00 for 4 4oz lures

About 40-45% of my lures go to Canada or the EU right now. At those lure prices $3 gas does not look so bad

Hey Castmaster,
I rarely if ever use public transport such as rail or bus/coach but according to what i see on the news etc its the worst and most expensive in Europe but that applies to a lot of things over here
