Posts: 300 Location: Minocqua, WI | Hi, I'm relatively new to the world of bow-mount trolling motors, and operating them. I will be purchasing a motor sometime within the next 2 months and I have narrowed my options down to a PowerDrive V2 with 55lb thrust/ 54" shaft/ 12V battery. This is the model that comes with universal sonar only. For about $600, I feel this would be my best-buy compared to others like a Terrova, Maxxum, Edge, etc. The boat I'd be using this motor with is a relatively light craft - 15ft Lund Tri-hull with 28HP Evinrude. About half of the boat is fiberglass while the other half is aluminum. The boat is still in-progress with my refurbishing and customizing, but I am slowly nearing the end of everything and this motor and building the mounting platform will be the last part to the project. I already have the locator unit all-set and ready to go with the motor as it is a Garmin FishFinder 240. Plug it in = catch a fish. Would a 55lb thrust be good enough for a boat of this size and weight? The only thing I'm worried about is getting enough battery life to last a full day out of a single 12V unit (I will have a spare battery in back of boat for the transom-mount motor - so I can use that if battery-1 dies)...... However, I'm not willing to spend an extra $150-200 on a 24V unit that comes with 70lb thrust - nor would I have much storage space to begin with for two batteries on the front end of boat. Does anyone have any experience running and operating a PowerDrive V2? If you do, what do you think of it? Do you also have any suggestions for me and my boat? What would you say? thanks. andrew Attachments ---------------- nov2.jpg (53KB - 100 downloads) nov5.jpg (64KB - 123 downloads) IMG_0011.JPG (72KB - 109 downloads)

Posts: 5874 | Andrew, Nice looking boat! You do nice work. I think the 55 V2 would be plenty for this boat. And don't worry too much about having enough battery life to get you through a whole day. I would suggest you build, if you haven't already, your battery compartment big enough to secure 2 Group 27(or even 31's). Start out with one battery, and if that lasts a whole day, great. If not, add another like battery, wire in parallel, and you will nearly triple your TM time. I don't think you need to go to a 24V system and the extra 15 pounds to the PD70. Sorry, I didn't read where you will have another battery in the back. You can wire the two TM batterys in parallel, and get more time from either TM. Edited by Shep 1/21/2008 12:13 PM

Posts: 143 | I have the 55 V2 on my 1600 Fish Hawk. moves it around just fine, so it'll be fine for that boat. a full charge will last me 2 days. maybe 3, depending on use/power level, etc. Edited by butterwheels 1/21/2008 1:27 PM

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | Andrew, Nice boat indeed! Shep is right on. Wire 2-12v batteries together in parallel and you will essentially triple your service hours. I have a 19ft deep-vee with a 125hp and 5 onboard batteries (3 in parallel for trolling motor, 1 for starter and console, 1 for electronics). It's a heavy rig. I only have a 42lb Powerdrive with autopilot. Not my first choice but it's never kept me off the water. I will upgrade to at least a 75 someday but 42 is what came with the boat. I fish on some pretty windy days so I'm sure you'll get along fine the way you're gonna spec out your boat. Enjoy your toy! Steve
