| I have a 6600 Morrum and am experiencing levelwind problems that are totally confusing me....
Once per cast, and not every cast, as I am reeling in - the levelwind will travel across to the right, begin to travel back to the left, make it less than a quarter of an inch and jump back to the right again, then continue as normall.
As I mentioned it only double wraps the right edge of my spool and it usually only does this once per cast, and not on every cast. It usually occurs when throwing a twitch or jerkbait and not with a Bucktail.
This may not seem like a big deal but on the 6600 the levelwind moves back and forth on the cast. When I cast, once the line reaches the point of the double wrapped portion of the spool it no longer is following the levelwind and it is off by an inch or so.
This creates a great deal of friction on the line (fraying it), drastically reduces the distance of my cast and makes a horrible noise.
I have disassembled this reel several times hoping to find something wrong with it but everything appears to be in order. I oil everything and this seems to help, but after a few hours of casting it starts to "hiccup" again, thus frustrating the hell out of me.
Has this ever happened to any other Morrum owners?
I will likely send it in to get repaired but really don't want to part with it for a couple of weeks.......
Thanks for any input,

| I had a similar problem with my 6500 C3. Check the worm gear which guides the levelwind to see if there is groove in it. I had to replace the worm gear and the pin cost $15 with shipping and handling. Easy to fix if that is the problem. |

| It would take only a tiny tiny (hardly or not even visible if you don't know what to look for) little nick or groove in the worm gear to make this problem, but it is almost certainly the problem. I have had 3 worm gears do the same now this season on C3's, thats one part that I think needs to be improved with a titanium gear or something that will not be easily damaged. Easy part to replace though. |

| I've had a similar problem with my 6500.... It's now about 12 years old, so the wear may have gradually built up on the worm gear.... Anyone heard anything about the 'average' lifespan of the worm gears on the 6500's and 6600's? Do they eventually wear out from use, or is it more often a nick or something like sand that gets in and fouls it up?

| The thing that shortens the life of the worm gears the most is having dirt & debris build up in the track. If the track stayed perfectly clear I would think that the pawl and gear may outlast many of the other moving parts. I'm going to start bringing an old toothbrush w/ me to clear that sucker out more often. |

| I know all you guys love to "tinker" with reels....but let's be realistic, this is a $210 reel with a 2+yr warranty. Be smart, let Garcia handle it....send it back, you'll be AMAZED with the speed that they will get your problem fixed and send the reel back. If they can't fix it, they'll probably replace it for you, if it's under warranty. THIS IS THE REASON TO STAY WITH ABU-GARCIA, not only do they put out a quality product, but they stand by it and offer incredible customer service!!! If you're interested send the reel to:
