MN is 54 pounds, which should fall any year now. Lots of fish close to this have been released in the past few years. I know Ontario's is larger but I don't kow off the top of my head.

Yeah, I believe that Lax has a Mold of that fish now. I'm not 100% certain, but I think that it was 60" x 28 or some such thing.
As a side note, didn't that fish come from the St. Lawrence? I had heard of a large LAc Seul fish but thought it was more in the 58" range and some MASSIVE girth.

that Lac Suel fish was realistically around 52 inches and maybe a 23 inch girth. One of the most exagerated muskies of 2007.

Lac Seul is C&R only

I agree with Kevin Cochran, and as the guest states, Lac Seul is C&R only. For MI's Lunge Log purposes you can count fish caught there, but any record-size fish caught there would not really count.

I think the Lac Suel fish was mid fifties, tops IMHO. I saw a picture of it in my local paper and didn't believe it right away.

pics can be very deceving as we all know. I caught a 55x27 this year with jason hamernick and posted pics and got fire from all directions. nobody took into consideration that I was 6ft 2in tall and 260lbs with 3 jackets on! I belive it would be hard to trick most muskie fisherman (if thats the case) but its also hard to tell the exact length of a fish by a pic, guess the guys in the boat are the only ones that know the real truth, I have not seen pics of the 60in fish, but if its true-congrats!

troy trebesch-Didn't see the picture. If you can will you post it again on this thread? Love to see it!
Jody D also caught that monster on Mil Lacs this year with Steve. Heard that was a big girl!!! One other big monster I heard of was a guy by the name of Jeff. That was close to the MN record as well from what I heard.

Jeff's fish was 54.5x27, if it was the Jeff that I know about. My brother girthed that fish in three places and it was 27 all three times. It was thick all the way from front to back. I'd post a picture of it, but not without his permission. He released it too. By the way, it looks about twice as big as the 60" Lac Seul fish.

Jeff sent me a pic of his fish and OH MY GAWD!!!! There were 3 huge fish caught that day and from the pic I saw, Jeff's was the biggest. No Doubt. It was a Wisconsin strain and had thickness all the way to the tail. The heaviest fish I've seen this year. The Leech Lakers have huge bellies but not the "full girth" like the 'Sconnie fish. My 2 cents. Oh, and Troy's fish was a monster also. Thicker than the other 55X27 caught that day and huge kudos to Troy for putting her back! Steve

Nice fish guys! Another great fall on ML.

There was another big one caught on ML. I caught a 55 x 27.5 on 11/23 trolling a crankbait on a reef with Brian Hanson.

Tom Jones - MN DNR Large Lake Specialist made some comments on the fish in an article by Rob Passons in the 12/12 issue of the Mille Lacs Messenger.

Here's part of it: As far as the state record is concerned, Jones said he is fairly certain the record-breaking fish has already been caught. "That last one - I'm pretty sure that was a new state record, it was almost certainly over 54 pounds."

It's on our latest DVD: Just Big Muskies Volume 4, available at the Chicago show at Thornes and R & H.

Here is a photo I have of Jeff's 54.5x27. I hope he doesn't mind me posting it.

I'm not sure if there was a larger fish caught than this one last year, speaking in terms of total fish size. There may have been, but the fish in this photo looks bigger than any Muskie I saw in any other photo from 2007. Maybe you agree....

Slobosaurus and a half!!! Look at the chunk between the dorsal/anal/caudal fin. THAT'S how you know a fish is truly BIG!!!! It basically holds its girth from just behind the gills to the base of the caudal fin.

Hold on, still trying to lift my jaw off the floor...

Look at the size of the eye on Jeff's! Unreal......

Makes you wonder where they hang out all year on Mille...... sometimes I think these tanks are out in no mans land all summer and sitting on some flat. Kinda makes you want to drag some big cranks on planers and downriggers from Isle to Red Door......

Holy cow, talk about a couple of slobasaurus'. I can't get over how thick Jeffs fish is from head to tail...these are the kind of fish that have been haunting my dreams for the past 5 years. Congrats to both anglers!!!

so ... if it has girth at the anal fin would it then be considered a fat-ass?

Dont how many people caught it but the biggest leg pullin' of the year should go to the guy in the little row boat on Gren Bay if that fish was 56" he had to be 7' tall.
