I have always made my baits out of white cedar but i have just found a place i can get free honduran mahogany. Will there be a drastic change in the action of a bait due to the differant wood.We are all iced over i need to find someone with an indoor pool.

I've learned from working at a water treatment plant, that wood has different sink rates in lake water and water with chlorine in it. The more chlorine, the easier they float.
Just my experience.
I guess for a starting point, it couldn't hurt.

Yes.............with lighter woods the weight is primarily where the lead is placed while with heavier woods the weight is more evenly dispersed. I personally prefer the action of a heavy wood like mahogany for gliders but it's also far more difficult to work with. Mahogany (honduran) is one of my favorite woods......if you can get some go for it! Make sure you use a wood sealer as mahogany will at times bubble on you if you don't.
