With the success of the the d/c's I realize that the blades are what really attract the fish. But now tails are made with animal hair, silicone fibers, marabou, and rubber. What is your favorite tail dressing? What's the pro's and con's of using one over another? Clear water/dark water, cold water/warm water Etc.? Kdawg

I think that the tinsel excels over all the rest. No matter what the conditions.

And I would disagree. I've caught fish in varied conditions on natural hair baits when guys with big flashy baits weren't. Also, I've done the exact opposite, catching fish on Showgirls or a Gerry's when guys fishing Eagles (in the same boat mind you) have gone fishless.
I think they all have their strong points, depends on the presentation and what the fish want.

I'm not sure it matters a whole helluva lot....boo, hair, tinsel....caught fish on all with equal success.....

boo takes longer to dry....tinsel can tangle....I've gone full circle and for my own baits I'm back to tying hair...good profile, dries quickly....

Silicon moves a lot in the water, but IMO the most breathable material is flashabou. Lots of flash and great movement. I make my own and found, like Cowboyhannah, that it tangles pretty easily. I eliminate this by using just one hook which I've found not to reduce hooking percentages and make unhooking fish MUCH easier.

Marabou moves a lot as well, I'd say probably just as much as flashabou in fact. It doesn't dry quickly but you will get a bigger profile with 'bou.

I think you can't go wrong with any material. Buy baits with different kinds of material and decide for yourself. Experimentation is really the only way.

personaly, real old bucktail and marabou are the best,i have no rubber in my musky tacklebox.rubber is good for bass because they will hold the fish longer, but that feature is useless for musky, and they dont move well compare to real hair.

maybe under certain condition flashabou must work better than natural hair, but im not sure because,i dont play whit them that much.

Silicon skirting has a lot of pulsation, Flashabou has mega flash, Feathers give off a unique pulsating and fluttering action, but it's not what I like it's what the fish will hit on for that day. Try the GIANT FLASHER by Shumways, it has 2 - 10 blades with Marabou & Flashabou Tinsel for a bait that will come alive in the water.
