Posts: 31 Location: saint paul, mn | I just ordered the okuma induron frm rollie and helens...they are back ordered and it will be a lil while. When they called me about this, they tod me about the new okuma "red iris" or smething like that. Just wondering if anyone has opinion on if I should go with the iris, or stick with the induron. I will be using reel for large baits. I think the iris is 5 ball bearings and induron is 7. will that matter. Thanks

Posts: 31 Location: saint paul, mn | i guess my main question is...will it hold up to the large baits like the induron does? OR would it be better suited for a different application? Sure is a good looking reel.

hopefully Mark Rogers will weigh in on this, but my understanding is that the Red Isis is essentially a version of the Induron. as noted, the Induron has a couple more bearings, but the Isis is made with brass gears and it picks up slightly more line. basically you pay a bit extra for a stronger version of the Induron, so yes, i'd expect it'll hold up to big baits even better than the Induron already does...plus it's got that cool red color and power handle! Induron: http://www.okumafishingteam.com/reels/roundbaitcast/induron.html IDx-400 5.1:1 ratio, 7BB + 1RB, 13.1oz, 22" line pickup, 270/14 (0.35), 210/18 (0.40), 180/20 (0.42) $119.99 Red Isis: http://www.okumafishingteam.com/reels/roundbaitcast/red%20isis.html Ri-400P 5.1:1 ratio, 5BB + 1RB, 13.2oz, 23" line pickup, 270/14 (0.35), 210/18 (0.40), 180/20 (0.42) $159.99

Posts: 31 Location: saint paul, mn | well, I was going to try and wait for mark to weigh in, but I am far to impulsive for that! All I really needed was a little push. Thanks for info, always can count on muskie1st for great and timely advice.

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | My experience with Okuma has been very positive. The reels seem to "work". Get a power handle for your 400 IDx reel. Used a 400 with a power handle for the last couple of years pulling a DCGs and other big stuff and they seem to do well. Had plenty of power with the reel, and no problems with the gears so far. They also have a new series of muskie rods that work great. I realy like the 8'-6" telescoping rods that they are coming out with. Look at the EVx series and the 8'-6" telescoping. Great rod for the DGC's and other big stuff. Doug Johnson

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | Hey Guys... Sorry for the late reply. I took some time off from the computer this weekend. The Red Isis is a reel we saw coming down the assembly line last time we were at the factory. It is basically the Induron for the Japanese market. Spec wise... the internals between the two are the same. The only difference is the color and the handle. The handles that we use on the Red Isis cost much more to produce therefore the cost to the consumer is more. As far as the line pickup... the legnth of the handle makes it pick up 1 inch more per revolution compared to the Induron. There were a lot of guys that used the Indurons for all techniques. The reel worked well for many using big rubber and XX / Cowgirls. If anyone has any other questions... please let me know. Mark
