I am still in shock, I just read this on the Muskies Inc. site:

The 1st WI Chapter lost a great member this morning. Fred Johnson, from Eau Claire WI passed away suddenly this morning at work. Fred had been a vital member of our club for many years. Fred had been a past president as well as a long time treasure and held other positions on our board. He also was the inventor of Fred's Tensil Tails and Trojan Tails along with other baits that might be so commen. Fred will be missed be all of us in the 1st WI chapter. Please remember his family at this time of their sorrow.

Sad news indeed. I meet Fred a few times. He was one of those guys: you know right away that he is a good person.

My thoughts and prayers will be with his family and friends.

Thoughts and prayers to his family.

To the rest of you:
Go like so many have gone catching a huge fish, or draging a deer out of the woods. Like i've told all of my employers: "I am not giving you that satisfaction of me passing away on the clock!"

In no way did I mean disrespect to Fred or his family in the above statement.

"Never, EVER, take a knee in the Pursuit that
is your life! You only get one shot at anything,
and Fair Catches are for those who choose not
to Stand and Deliver, So do not pi$$ it all away!
GO HARD, or stay home!"

May Fred have the time of his life up in heaven with the muskys. Please do not educate all of them , though. Leave some for the rest of us who have yet to get there.

My condolences and prayers as well. Fred was a heck of a guy and will be missed greatly. I keep reading the post thinking it can't be right.

A sad day indeed.

I am still in shock and I recieved the phone call shortly after he passed away. I kept wanting to call his cell phone just to hear his voice but knew that I couldn't. Fred was a friend and one heck of a fisherman. He will be missed dearly by family and friends and no doubt has left a hole in our M.I. chapter board of directors. I'm not looking forward to next weeks meeting.

Rest in peace my friend. I'm going to miss helping you tinker with your boat when you needed help and listening to the stories from your MN adventures.

I saw this on the Muskies Inc. site. I have one of his baits, that's my only contact with the gentleman. It strikes me that the muskie fishing community is so close knit that a loss like this can send vibes a long way, such ripples look larger on small ponds like ours. It seems that Fred touched many lives and just in that, the loss is tragic. God Bless his family and friends in this time. m

My condolences to Fred's family. Met Fred at several of the winter shows. He was always extremely friendly and his passion for the sport was evident as we had some interesting chats together.

I'm shocked. My wife and I met/knew Fred through our coinciding trips to Vermillion over the years. He and his brother always had time to talk after a long day, and Fred will be sorely missed at the landing and on the reefs during next summers' trips. Prayers are with the Johnsons.

He was a great guy and devoted a lot of his life to both M.I. and the resource we all love. I will miss him.

Here is a Northland Adventures video clip including Fred at our first Leech strain stocking of Lake Wissota in November 2005.

Sorry to hearthis loss, our prayers are with the Johnson family. I remember getting my first Tinsel tail and a M 1st outing at the Cave, had a few get destroyed by fish. I had talked to him several time and what a great guy and I am sure he was a big part of the WI chapter.

It is a very sad loss, Fred was a great guy. We traded lures back and forth a couple of times at shows. I will miss him.

Fred was truly one of the quiet good guys that make this sport more than just catching fish. I couldn't believe it when I got the news. My heart aches as I type this. Fred was a friend and will be missed terribly.
