I know a few are using the TE, but I was looking around and the B is only around $250. Anything is better then the 7000 I've been using.

i use two of the older push button calcutta 700's and love them to death.....they really arent that big to hold if you get under them.....lots of power....bought one for dawgs and other big stuff, but now have two because they will work well in just about any situation except for walk the dog type baits. first year using them and they have been sturdy....i have tried and destroyed every reel under the sun too....i really like these

Treats, just get a Tekota 600 without the LC and save yourself about $100. Trust me. No reason to spend the extra cash on the Calcutta.

Or, if you want something a little more manageable go with the 500. Same gear ratio, but a little less spool

The Tekota series don't have any centrifugal cast controls, like the calcutta series do, has that been an issue for you Luke or are they tame enough for casting with just an educated thumb?

The Tekotas do actually have cast control adjustments. At least the 2 600's that I have do.

I have had ZERO problems with the Tekota...but, I have pretty much only been using them for big tails, dawgs, etc...stuff with enough weight that casting is never really an issue

Treats...i use a 700 B...i like it quite a bit.
i think they weight more than a abu 7000..but maybe i'm wrong. they have a ton of cranking power...i have had one problem w/ it so far..but i admit, i was abusing it. i use both the 700 TE and 700 B...can't complain about the 700 B. they cast a MILE..crank hard pulling baits really well and hold up quite well to what you'd be using it for.
i had it one rod, and didnt like it a first. put it on a different rod and now i LOVE it.
i think it's a good reel.

I find the 7001 twists a bit when reeling in big cranks when trolling. Its great to cast but If you're using it just to troll, I suggest you look at the Penn 320 GTI and GT2 series. I own a 321 GTI and have been hard on it for the last 4 seasons, absolutetly bulletproof!!!......Would definetly buy one again.
