Do most of you guys out there use filler material when spooling your reels? - or do you completely fill the spool with your line of choice?

If you use filler, what brand and strength?

Thanks for your input

On my 6500C's I will put a 40 or 50 pound test mono backing and the rest 50 pound Courtland spectron.

This may sound a bit stupid....but I've used 6lb. Mono on the backing for a bunch of reels as of late. Gives me more room to stuff the reel with line. But then I have to be MUCH MORE careful that I don't get close to that backing on the cast. Works for me, may be dangerous for you.

I use whatever I have lying around, one with 6#, another with 8# and another with 17#. I use mono about half way, then the braided.

I use 8# XT. It seems to hold up over the years.

No backing...just Tuf-line tied and wrapped with electrical tape on the spool. Your line wont slip when its 20 degrees out. After one year, just reverse it.[;)]

I use just enough 20# to ensure that the braid won't slip and then fill the reel with braid. Usually about 20 yards of mono will do the trick.

I use 8lb trilene. Smaller mono packs harder and worksbetter for backing in my opinion.

I FILL THE REEL...AND USE COURTLAND/SPECTRON..35-80lb, MOSTLY 50/80lb test. IT'S THE BEST!! A LITTLE MORE $$, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR[;)]
