Subject: Motor dripping oil

I have a 90HP johnson on a boat I boat a few months ago. It's running perfectly, but with the cold weather, I've been trolling quite a bit and have noticed that after taking the boat out and trimming up the engine, there are a few drips and streaks of thick, black oil coming from the powerhead and dripping onto lower unit of the engine. It never did this when running the engine normally, but started when I started trolling. I looked under the "hood" and the engine is perfectly clean.

Any ideas? Is this something to be majorly concerned about? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

i've noticed the same thing on 115hp Merc , what it is, is there is a vent hole in the top of the oil resevoir tank and if filling up too high and tilting the motor up for the transom saver makes the oil lean towards the vent and also it sloshing around in the tank when traveling.

Thanks for the feedback! Does this suggest that I should thus not be concerned?

When you say it dripping from the powerhead, is it coming out of the exhaust holes on the back of the motor? Or were exactly is it coming from. It is common for residual oil to come from the exhaust, ecspecially when it is cold and motor may not be reaching proper running temp at idle, or if running cheap oil.
