Posts: 114 Location: New London, Wisconsin | Fellas, Reborn musky hunter here who's not ready to jig for walleyes on the Wolf quite yet. Had a great four days in Vilas last weekend and now since I am only about an hour from Green Bay I was thinking about giving it a try. It's a little intimidating to me even though I lived over there for about 12 years. Not looking for any honey holes, just some advice on where to cast so I'm not in the way of any trollers etc. My biggest concern would be screwing someone up and then reading about it on here how some idiot cut me off or didn't know what he was doing out there. I'd probably put in by the fairgrounds and head down past the 172 bridge area. Any advice or hints would be great if you don't mind sharing. With my daughters basketball team, which I coach, another trip to the Northwoods is not going to work and May is just too far away for another outing. Thanks guys, Labs

Posts: 2753 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Labs- I would fish the most likely spot's. If you're casting and someone else is trolling, it's their problem, i.e., you are not cutting anyone off! Always fish bridge area structure- river fish like to orient to the bridge structure. Fish the current breaks, and I don't mean just the slack water. You will find an surprising number of fish out in the current edges/boils. Have fun! Al

Posts: 512 Location: Appleton | There is a nice shelf to the north of the 172 bridge it's on the right side if your heading north. Right before a train bridge and on the opposite side of fort howard try casting there. Also try all the warm water discharges. Also like mentioned above casting around bridge structure such a pilings and such is a good idea. Nice to see someone trying to cast out there since it's a forgotten form on the Fox and GB.

Location: Green Bay, WI | While there doesn't seem to be a ton of fish in the river yet, there are some. I troll pretty much exclusively, so I have never cast out there. But I agree with the above posts--hit the likely looking spots. My other advice would be to check out the bottom features of "non-likely" looking spots as well, as there is quite a bit of structure that doesn't look like it would be there. Don't worry about getting in the trollers path, as there is a LOT of shallower water in the river that most trollers don't ever fish. This will be pretty obvious to you when you're out there--areas 6 feet and less hold fish and no one really trolls it much on the river. Also check out the old dock & pier pilings, old cement pilings, etc. You can't really troll this stuff, so no one really fishes it well unless they cast. Good luck out there. I think it's a time of transition, so you may find the fish anywhere. TB Edited by tcbetka 11/2/2007 10:15 AM

Posts: 114 Location: New London, Wisconsin | Thanks for the replies guys, this certainly helps. Not much of a troller but I've done it for walleyes on Poygan and would imagine it's relatively the same except with musky gear. Call me old fashion, but I feel more involved while casting... Thanks again and have a great weekend... Labs

Location: Green Bay, WI | Just got back from a few hours trolling. Not much going on--very windy in the Bay. There were LOTS of baitfish in the mouth, so it seems they may be starting to head upriver. It's too early to tell for certain, but there are way more baitfish in the river mouth than a week ago. Water temps 49-50 in the Bay, and as high as 52.5 in the river. But we only went up to the Hwy 43 bridge though. You are gonna have to find the fish, as I think it truly is a period of transition. Casting might be a very good strategy this weekend. TB

Posts: 3 | Has anyone been out on the river lately, any luck or is it still slow? I am thinking of trying it this week or weekend. I may just stay close to home and try one of the lakes.

Posts: 512 Location: Appleton | As of last Sunday the temps in the bay were from 37.2 up to 42.2 depending on location. The water in the river was around 39. I would imagine they are holding close to that as it's been low 40's during the day and 20's at night. Best of luck.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Sunday it was 38 or so in the bay, and about 40-41 in the river mouth. Saturday it was high as 42 up near the 172 bridge. I suspect it's a bit cooler now though, after a couple cold nights that we have had. TB
