Well, after my 20 month old little girl went down for the night and my wife was asleep on the couch I had my opportunity to carve a pumpkin.

I am looking forward to see if any kids/parents recognize what it is tonight during trick-or-treating. Kids that get it will get a little more candy of course.

Sorry I didn't get a girth or length measurement on this catch.

Last one is "Esox Diablo" the Devil Muskie.

It was great, I had a handful of neighbors, most of whom I did not know, ask me about the pumpkin or pointed it out to their kids as they were coming the drive.

That was a lot of fun, new record at our house for trick or treaters, 96 kids. Not bad for a 5 year old neighborhood in a town of about 1200 or so.

Great work man. Here is a picture of a pumpkin that I finished the other night. My girlfriend officially thinks I'm insane. I can't wait to see her reaction when she gets into the boat with us for the first time this coming weekend...she has only seen pictures to this point so hopefully she gets a chance to see one up close and personal. I'm still shocked that I came away from this carving with all of my fingers.

I started with the safety knife but finished with the fillet knife. The safety knife leaves things a little jagged, but the fillet knife cuts like butter and smooths it out nice. Most work my fillet knife has gotten in years.

Another trick I found was sketching it out on paper then taping it on and tracing really hard with a ballpoint pen. It left an indent on the pumpkin to cut out.

Next year maybe we should think about haing a carve off.

Wish I would have gotten that creative. I just drew up a pattern on some paper to get an idea of what I wanted to do then drew it on the pumpkin quite a few times before getting it right. I used the safety knife for the majority of my cutting after a close call with a fillet knife early on. I have a few pictures on my camera that turned out better than the one I posted above off of my phone. Ill post a good one when I get a chance.
